Simple & Delicious

The concierge at the Bellagio recommended this place for great sushi in Vegas. Conveniently located next door, inside Caesar's Palace, seemed like a nice walk and a fine night out. The atmosphere was nice. Nothing outrageous or special. The waitress looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for a mojito made with shiso mint. It was bland, lacking in flavor but after all of the sugary drinks I had on the strip during the day, it was kind of nice. The sushi menu was very small & very basic. No signature rolls, nothing fancy, just basic sushi you could find anywhere. I had to specially order a spicy scallop hand roll. The scallops in the roll were unfortunately cooked, but it was still tasty. Everything that was brought to us tasted good. I was however disappointed because it was the same kind of sushi I could have had at home in Denver.
- Pros: Good food. Nothing was bad.
- Cons: Nothing special. Same kind of sushi you can get anywhere.

The sushi was fresh and melted in your mouth. However, the "tempura appetizer" was definitely not worth the money. We had about 5 pieces of veggie tempura and 2 shrimp and it cost $15...and 2 of the veggie pieces were over cooked. We also got the Caesar's Specialty Roll which was a huge disappointment. For $22 you'd think they'd put a little more in than a small/skinny piece of tempura shrimp, a skinny piece of asparagus and some shredded carrots. It didn't have a lot of flavor and when we told the waitress it wasn't very good she just left. I wouldn't get the specialty rolls again-save your money and stick to the standard rolls.

- Cons: Overpriced rolls and appetizers, small tables

Fresh and well prepared Japanese fare

The star of the show at Hyakumi was definitely the sushi/sashimi. The fish was incredibly fresh and of a very high quality.....so much so that my wife and I ate there more than once during our recent trip to Vegas. The california rolls and deep fried soft shell crab were good as well. Though unspectacular, their Japanese bento box sets were executed well. The place also serves a chinese-influenced lunch menu that offers cantonese dishes such as braised beef stew noodles and catonese roasts, which we reckon is slightly below what you would get at an authentic cantonese restaurant like Sam Wong's. Worth a try nonetheless.
- Pros: Freshest seafood around makes great sushi and sashimi
- Cons: Execution of chinese dishes can be improved. Can be pricey.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE

Do not go! First, I was seated in a "huffy" way due to not having a reservation. 2 people in my party had to leave. I asked if we should move to a smaller table. I was told "no," but then had the staff talking me 3 feet from my table over the matter. Moreover, we waited 15 minutes for menus, and were never given a proper greeting. 2 people argued with me over supposedly ordering the wrong beer. I then had to ask 3 times for a glass of water, as did the table next to me. It took about an hour to get my sushi, I did not get all that I ordered, and the waitress never checked back. When I flagged her down to get my bill, she hovered over me while I paid. That was the most she had been at my table the entire evening.
