A hallmark of German food is its use of wholesome, filling foods. You can't compromise that and still provide a decent plate of Bavarian eats. Well, The Cafe Heidelberg German Deli compromised every dish on my plate. I ordered the Schweinenbraten for lunch with mashed potatoes and cucumber slaw for sides. The meat tasted reheated, like yesterday's leftovers put in the microwave. The gravy added little flavor and had most certainly been poured from a can. The slaw was average, but lacked the splash or flare you'd expect at a restaurant. The most disappointing part was the instant mashed potatoes. What a lack of effort the use of instant, dehydrated potatoes shows. Poor form. None of the other three people with whom I dined plan on returning, either.
Pros: The German market. Even if your dinner is bad, as mine was, you can still get some good chocolate.
Cons: Food. Price. Atmosphere.
