When people think of food in Vegas, the first thing people talk about are the cheap buffets. Then, second, are the gourmet restaurants that are being opened by famous chefs from around the world. Those in-between restaurants often go unseen. For example, other than Lawry's Prime Rib, where can you get a great steak for a reasonable price that isn't "run of the mill"? Well, my husband and I dined at the Silverado Steakhouse at the South Point Hotel. The staff was attentive, courteous, and accommodating. They offered suggestions when asked, and left us to ourselves during the meal. One of my pet peeves is an empty glass that never gets refilled. I did not experience this at the Silverado Steakhouse...and just for that they get kudos. (I am sometimes easily pleased.) My husband's prime rib cut was exactly what he was looking for, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the Filet Oscar -- medallions of mignon served with asparagus. The medallions were exquisitely tender, the sauce tangy but not overpowering. The asparagus tender but not mushy. It was a lovely dinner overall. I think my husband will forever remember his chocolate peanut butter bonbon -- yes, singular... bonbon. I thought it was a misprint on the menu...but no. It was a bonbon the size of a baseball. Definitely not they typical bite-size bonbons one usually thinks of, but he enjoyed it. Funnily, three of the staff came to the table to specifically say it was their favorite dessert on the menu. I would definitely recommend the Silverado Steakhouse. It's "way off" the Strip, and even further from Downtown, but it's a great alternative if you're looking to get away from the crowds of those two areas.

Pros: Great staff, convienently located in the hotel
