Undiscovered Asian Bistro

by westie2

This restaurant is located in a shopping center hosting a number of restaurants including the wildly popular Firefly with it shares common ownership. Unfortunately the Asian bistro concept has fallen on deaf wallets and, other than a few people at the bar; the restaurant was empty at 8:40PM this Monday evening. In contrast, it was standing room only over at the Firefly. My wife ordered a Thai beef salad with pickled cucumber in a warm spicy sauce which was excellent. I ordered the banana leaf salmon steamed with miso and shitake mushrooms. The Atlantic salmon was very good, but it obviously had not been steamed in the banana leaf which was cold to the touch. A very good side dish of baby bok choy stir fried with oyster mushrooms was shared.

  • Pros: No reservations required, bood place for small bites
  • Cons: Empty dining room, parking lot filled with customers of other restaurants

This is place is soooooooo cool!

by jennyjennyk1972

Dragonfly is located right next door to Firefly, my favorite restaurant. The girls and I go there at least once a week for dinner and music and people watching and all that. Well last week we were starving and didn't want to wait for a table at Firefly so we went to Dragonfly next door and now I have a new favorite hangout.

The food is awesome but that's not all. They show Japanese movies on the window. Don't ask. Just go. They have like a greatest hits menu with sushi and also chinese and thai noodles and stuff. The place is cooler than the giant strip places like Tao and Social House, plus it's FRiGGIN' CHEAP! I couldn't believe how cheap after all that food and 500 sake martinis.

  • Pros: great food. cool place. cheap. open late.
  • Cons: none

Yummy sushi

by vegas07

I discovered Dragonfly a few months ago. I love coming here after work with my friends for sushi and their delicious grilled skewers. They also have some specials during happy hour...half off sushi. If you are looking for a fun place to hang out at, eat some great sushi and sip on sake, this is the place you need to check out.

What Happened?

by tobyvalencia

I happened across Dragon Fly back in May while in Vegas on business. I was thrilled with the service and the quality of food. I was in Vegas this weekend with a group of friends celebrating my birthday. When they said they'd like to go for sushi somewhere off the strip I naturally thought of Dragon Fly. To my surprise the place was almost empty on a Friday evening. My friends and I, 7 in total, sat down and proceeded to order a variety of things from Miso Soup and Edamame to a Crunch Roll, to my Ahi Sashimi. I've never had a Crunch Roll before but my friends said what they got didn't even resemble anything they'd ever had before. The miso soup had an overwhelming cilantro flavor. The edamame came out after the rest of our order. My sashimi never came out. Even after complaining to the manager and having 50% of our bill taken off I'd never consider giving them another chance.

A unique place in Vegas!

by andrealeal

My husband and I eat out a lot at sit down restaurants (about once or twice a day) and we were looking for something new and different; we were definitely not in the mood for chain restaurants. Our serious "eating out ennui" was dispelled by Dragonfly's unpretentious and delicious food. Not only are the dishes on the menu unpredictable, the food is totally delicious and the flavors are vibrant. I don't eat shrimp so the waiter offered to have the chef make our pork and shrimp rolls with pork only. I loved that. When our order came they not only tasted great, they had a bit of a different flavor, not sure if it was the sauce or what but it was really good. The green salad with the peanut dressing was just the right portion. I couldn't decide between the steak and mushroom dish and the chicken a la king with the coconut gravy. Finally I went with the steak, and it was a good choice. Next time we go I will try the chicken dish. My husband had the FireDragon sushi rolls and he loved it becayse the balance of flavors were just right- the tempura was warm, the sushi was cold, and the sauce was creamy and everything blended perfectly. We also had dessert, a banana tempura dish with strawberries and cantalope soaked overnight in raspberry sake. What can I say? It was different and scrumptious. Service was prompt and friendly but not overly solicitous; the decor airy and modern with a touch of whimsy in terms of the dragonfly theme. Overall, I highly recommend this place especially if you are tired of the same old thing in Vegas.

  • Pros: Unique food, flavorful dishes; happy hour half price sushi rolls from 2pm-5pm and reverse happy hour sushi rolls from 11pm to 2am
  • Cons: It looks dark from the outside like it might be closed but it isnt.

Great Happy Hour

by heuton

I started going here when they first opened and it was my favorite lunch spot. Erica, my usual waitress, is very sweet and does a great job. I don't work down the street from Dragonfly anymore but recently made the trip for their wonderful fried rice. Unfortunately it was prepared differently and my non-Erica waiter, although very friendly, was very slow. He also didn't offer us drinks after bringing us water which, if you drink their water, you will see why that's an issue worth mentioning! Dragonfly has unique sushi rolls at a great price (you can get half rolls for most, and half price after 2.. I think until 5?) and I enjoyed their chicken curry and was in LOVE with their fried rice with pork. I don't know if it was just the person preparing it the last time we went but the fried rice was gross and darker than usual and the pork was tough. Used to go a couple times a week, after the last time I am not interested since it's a drive for me. Hopefully it was a fluke experience because I loved this place! ABSOLUTELY worth the sushi if you're in the area though! Not the best but one of my favorites!

  • Pros: Erica, unique sushi, parking, music, ambiance
  • Cons: water
