Omakase forever

by Wingchild

`Omakase` normally means you're sitting at a sushi bar, letting the chef choose delicious things for you to eat. At Sushi Roku it means you've opted to submit yourself to some of their best food with an extremely slick presentation. A breakdown of my most recent meal;

0 Course: complimentary chamagne; added water and plum wine to the drink roster as well. (Their plum wine is delicious, don't miss it.)

1st course: fresh scallop / tuna belly / foie gras wrapped in yellowtail. This last item deserves special note, easily being one of the most delicious things I've had the privledge to eat.

2nd course: light salad with slices of sea bass, ginger dressing.

3rd course: very thinly sliced pieces of halibut, a dab of spicy daikon on each. Looked unusual as I wasn't familiar with the slicing technique. Delicious.

4th: blackened, baked cod - so tender it flaked apart at the touch. First impression was astonishment that an upscale sushi place would sell cod, one of the most common seaside fish in the world. Whatever they did to this fish has made me a fan for life. It couldn't top the foie gras / yellowtail, but it certainly gave a mighty try.

5th: `volcano cake` (warm chocolate cake with liquid chocolate filling) for dessert.

I'm already planning a visit on my next trip to Vegas. If you love sushi, go to Sushi Roku. If you want to avoid the crowds and scene-folk, go on a Monday or Tuesday. The place was very open at 7pm but filled up quickly after dark.

  • Pros: Great view of the strip, best sushi in Vegas
  • Cons: A few too many scene-folk

Fantastic Sushi, Japanese Contemporary design, comfortable seating, strip view, great service

by sndblueskies

I was so impressed with the design of this resturante. Comfortable raised leather booths, strip views and not a bad seat in the house. The food was fresh, clean with beautiful presentation. Take your time, no one is rushing you. Sip that Saki and enjoy every bite. I will eat at this resturante everytime I visit Vegas.

  • Pros: Service, Quality of food and ambience

Wonderful meal-Good Vegan /Vegetarian Options

by breannlisa

I ate at Sushi Roku in September 2008. My husband is a vegan and it is often difficult to find suitable options for him and sometimes staff treats us poorly as we ask a lot of questions. We had a great experience at Sushi Roku. The staff pointed out multiple options for the husband and recommended ways to modify certain dishes to ensure that they were vegan and they were happy to do so. Most people seem aggravated but they smiled and were so pleasant about it. I had a great meal myself with chicken teriyaki but my husband was in love with their food (although I cannot remember what he had). The staff made the restaurant a great option and we will certainly visit again. The food was also priced reasonably and the drinks were decent.

  • Pros: The service, menu options, vegan/vegetarian options
  • Cons: None

Not terribly memorable

by rina1234

Honestly, I've tasted better. It's not bad like Smith's Food King or Costco bad. But it's OK. Large dining area makes it nice to dine. Large windows overlooking strip. Trendy, modern decor. But aside from that, food is good, but OK.

  • Pros: Not Costco-bad sushi
  • Cons: OK food and atmosphere

Check out the lunch specials

by todd1001

Ate here for lunch recently. I had the assorted sushi sampler and a spicy tuna roll. The meal came with miso soup - - all for $19! The fish was delicious and the service was attentive and quick.

  • Pros: Great Lunch Menu
  • Cons: None

Excellent food and service!

by PMA08

WOW! This place rocks! Last night we had awesome service and incredible food! It was a HAUL from the monorail, but well worth it. By far, one of the best meals I have ever had. I went with a party of four. We started with a sake sampler (highly recommend) and ordered the chef's special for $90. What a great deal! Lots of things I never would have ordered, but everything I ate was delicious! There was a foie gras to die for and a killer sea bass with yuzu butter that I will dream about for time to come. For the prices on the menu, this was a spectacular deal and phenomenal quality. Others in my party ordered a la carte. Their food was also good, but they envied my 6 courses. Dinner was not cheap - $500 without tip, but it was memorable and yummy! If you have the funds and the appetite, I would suggest this restaurant for sure!

  • Pros: Awesome food, great atmosphere, great presentation, quick and efficient service
  • Cons: Expensive

The Titan roll rocks!

by redhunniedt

My mom and I went to Sushi Roku last night and had a great time. The service was excellent. I didn't have to ask for anything. They cleared plates quickly, keep cocktails coming before the current one was empty. Checked back just to check back. The Sushi Chefs were personable and very quick. Atmosphere is pretty much standard for trendy Vegas restaurants. Modern and funky. I recommend the Titan roll and the Shima. The Titan was $26 but that is to be expected in Vegas nowadays (Lobster and Steak lunch for $6.99 anyone?). The bar was packed with people generally hanging out and not exactly sitting down for dinner. We lucked out not having a reservation and sat at the sushi bar less than 10 minutes after getting there. The bartender was extremely nice as well. She was quick and friendly.

  • Pros: delicious and fun
  • Cons: pricey

Not worth a number 1 ranking

by hike2cit

Sashimi quality excellent. Rolls average at best. Although the size of the yellowtail sashimi left much to be desired. Ok for tourists not for locals.

  • Pros: Sashimi flavor
  • Cons: Sashimi size

Awesome View!!!

by klasker

What a gorgeous view! The restaurant was gorgeous too, but when in Vegas you want to see the strip and that is what I watched all night. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the sushi was too, no smoke and mirrors at this Vegas spot, unlike a lot of other places we tried.
