Reasonably priced, Good people, Great food, Fantastic selection of beers

by smshan

My husband (he is an Indian) and I are vegetarians and love Indian food. When we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. We had the vegetable samosa as an appetizer and "Recession Lunch", which was $5.99. This included a salad, a nan bread (quartered), a cup of rice, and the vegetable dish. We had the vegetable korma and Aloo Kawli. For drinks, we got the mango lassi and a porter (Polygamy Porter, I am not kidding check it out!, Their slogan is Bet you can't have just one!) The food arrived in 5-10 minutes. The salad was fresh, nan bread was warm and soft, the vegetable dish was fantastic. We cant stop salivating over it even after 24 hours! The price for the entire dinner was <$30. Which, I think is reasonable considering it was a specialty beer from Utah.

This place is great. Definitely check it out.

  • Pros: Great tasting vegetarian dish
  • Cons: none I can think of

not bad, not great

by mojavemame

My mom, 1 year old, and I came here on a lazy Sunday afternoon looking for good chai and momos.

In my opinion it was just ok. Their website says they have a champagne buffet on Sundays until 3pm--not true, there is no buffet on Sundays. The service was slow despite only one other table being occupied. We weren't in any hurry, but with a toddler it is nice to be able to order and get some naan or something in a timely fashion so as to keep the kid from getting squirmy.

Speaking of naan, it was good--better than Gandhis, but not as good as India Oven. The chai was very good, though lukewarm, and came in a cute teapot. We ordered vege momos--these were heavy on onion and some bitter root vegetable, and again to my palate were 'ok'. The chutneys were watery. Mom got the chau chau noodle dish--it was also luke warm, noodles with mushrooms, chicken, and a small amount of broccoli. I got the vege masala, 1/2 order, with basmati--the rice was a bit sticky and the sauce was again a little bitter.

All in all--not bad, but not great. They did have a large selection of bottled beers on their menu.

I would probably choose India Oven for a good sit down dinner or naan craving, and Gandhi's for a lunch buffet, over this place. I did like the location--small, easy to get to, easy to park

  • Pros: convenient location, good chai, large beer menu
  • Cons: lukewarm, average food.

Vegas's Best!

by ALynnJ

My friends from LA and I ended up here on the recommendation of a Vegas local, and it was well worth it!

The chef is obviously extremely good. The menu is very original with a great mix of dishes. I had the Eastern Nepali Shrimp Curry - one of the best entrees I've tasted in a long time, and my friends expressed similar opinions of the Mahakali Mango Chicken and the Lamb Sekuwa.

When I commented on the amazing taste, I was told everything is made by hand and that the spices are ground on site, which is obvious as the food is worlds better than the usual Indian food that taste like the spices used are out of a box.

In addition to the food, we were served the best sake I've ever tasted (our waiter's choice), and I was particularly impressed by the beer list -- Nogne O Imperial Stout, Himalayan Blue Lager, and others I was pleasantly surprised to see as in my opinion, most restaurants pay less attention to stocking quality beers that are appropriate to the theme of the establishment than they should.

The service as well, was outstanding. We had a fabulous time and would love to go back soon!

Very sweet, and oh what food! It's a happy day in Vegas!

by artwindows

We just started looking around in Vegas for a vegetarian, or vegetarian friendly restaurant and found the Himalayan Cuisine. It sounded great from the review, but when we went there, we were especially pleased by not only the sweet ambiance and more than courteous hosts, but the amazing meal which we had hoped for. The tomato soup was quite the tasty dish, as well as the organic greens salad. We're so done with the casino food, as good as some of it is, it's just too rich for us. The Himalayan Cuisine will be on our tours of Vegas from now on.

  • Pros: Excellent food and service. Very unique flavors.
  • Cons: none that I took note of..

Tried something new for a change...

by jschepp

So my daughter makes me go to this himalayan cuisine place off of flamingo... I have never had Himalayan food before and it was delicious! I had the lunch buffet which gave me a chance to taste all the main dishes on menu plus the waiter talked into having a mango sake martini..soo good. I brought my husband.

  • Pros:  Not a busy setting... calm and peaceful enough to enjoy the food.
  • Cons:  The names on the menu

Another great reason to dine out in Las Vegas!

by paxus

One of my favorite reasons for living in Las Vegas is the ability to access exotic foods of almost every variety all within a 20 minute drive. Himalayan Cuisine is an excellent example of this. Located in a strip mall just off from the Strip, it's not much to look at from the outside. However, what the restaurant lacks in decor they more than make up for with taste. Their beer and wine selection is a pleasant break from the norm, featuring Bavarian brews, traditional bourgeois favorites and imported ethnic beers. The food menu is so well written, it was difficult for me to make a quick decision. Luckily the owner was available to help guide me towards a wonderful lamb Kawab. My wife selected a lamb Korma, and soon we were indulging in the delicious and balanced flavors of east India. The dishes were fresh, flavorful and came in just the right portions. My dish was spicy and crisp, while my wife enjoyed a cream and butter sauce. I never knew lamb could be so tender! And while Himalayan Cuisine offers any range of heat for you spicy lovers, they were also very knowledgeable of the balance between a pleasant burn and a 5 alarm fire. For dessert we ordered Khir, and we were able to softly taste every ingredient used in the dish. I recommend this restaurant to all locals and tourists who want an "off the beaten path" dining experience.

Probably the best restaurant in its price range in all of Las Vegas

by bruinforever

Ever since the new management has come in this has been my absolute favorite restaurant in Las Vegas bar none. The service is friendly and the waiters sit and talk with you if its not too busy. The food is consistently good and the specials they have from time to time aren't just meant to "move out" excess food, they are indeed the tastiest dishes of the night. The indian food is great but the nepalese food is better and I find it to be a lot less greasy, a lot less sweet and creamy and a lot more nuanced in flavor. The owner usually serves himself and you would be lucky to be seated at a table where he is serving. Sometimes the chef comes out and talks passionately about his food and cooking techniques as well. The servers seems very knowledgeable about their beers and wine and they stock some very exotic and hard to find beers as well. Some of the wines I've had by the bottle were a steal compared to other restaurants and they use proper stemware and glassware befitting your beverage. For example, a pinot noir glass for a pinot noir, a chimay glass for the chimay beers, a riesling glass for the rieslings etc. The only unfortunate thing is that the location is set in a strip mall plaza where one is forced to make a u-turn on busy flamingo rd when driving from the strip. Parking isn?t always that great either, but these are very minor caveats.

  • Pros: Fantastic food, great selection of beers and wine, low markups on the alcohol, happy hour
  • Cons: location is not the sexiest, ambience could be better (although it does improve week by week), parking sometimes can be difficult

Authentic Food

by smc0016

I came in last week and wanted to write a review on how great the food was here. I had the chicken curry - very flavorful, great spices. Their menu had a lot to choice from...anything from pakoda to soups/salads to chicken/vegetarian/seafood entrees. I hear they have a lunch buffet - I will try that next time.
