This is the best 'homey' Mexican food joint LV has to offer???
by Scotchlover
My wife and I love Mexican food. Love it. Back before we moved to Las Vegas from the Bay Area last year, we frequented El Burro's in Campbell, CA. To this day, it's my, as well as my family's favorite restaurant of all time. Upon settling in LV, I had hoped to find a mexican restaurant that was just HALF as good as El Burro's. No tex-mex. Basic, authentic mexican food with a 'homey' feel to it. Senor Miguel's is not that place.
The price is excellent. The service is quick and very friendly. The menu is fairly expansive. In my time there, I ordered the 3 item combo of two cheese enchiladas along with a beef tamale. My wife had the 2 item combo of a chicken taco and beef taquito. We both had the rice and refried beans. The meals were satisfactory, yet nothing to write home about. My enchilada sauce was more about heat and less about flavor. The rice was decent in that it wasn't bombarded with peas, carrots and corn like some other mexican restaurants have. Also, prior to receiving our entrees, the chips and salsa/bean dip were adequate. The experience just wasn't spectacular, however.
Taquerias abound, so I may have to settle for getting my mexican food fix at one of those; however, I was hoping Senor Miguel's would be a good "sit down" restaurant my wife and I could go to a la El Burro's back home. Unfortunately, I don't think that'll be the case. Average, at best.
- Pros: Cheap, cheap food. Service.
- Cons: Nothing outstanding food-wise.

It is very sad that this is actually one of the best representations of the cheesy mexican plate I crave. The bland flavor of the salsa, entrees and endless bean dip are somehow enhanced by the hideous decor and cafeteria-like atmosphere. But the best part is that when you leave you're...SURPRISE!!!..at the ratty old Suncoast.woof.

Sip flavored margaritas and Mexican cervezas while filling up on south-of-the-border specialties in a courtyard setting.
