If you're spending a night or two in downtown Las Vegas, this old school hotel is perfectly located, with the casino opening right onto upper Fremont Street. No resort fee (but you will have to pay for internet), rooms in the $40s-$50s (get the Rush or Spa tower for upgraded decor), and the famous Tank pool (involving a waterslide that passes through their shark tank) make it a fun, affordable stay.
Very nice place to stay. Cool Pool. We visited Las Vegas a couple weeks back and stayed at the Golden Nugget. We love downtown Las Vegas adn have stayed here a few time. We really loved that it was close to all the cute wedding chapels in Las Vegas. We got married at Mon Bel Ami wedding chapel while we were in town which is right down the street. The Golden Nugget staff gave us free champane and strawberries when we told them that we had eloped. We would definitely stay here again!
Choice Among Downtown Hotels. Golden Nugget is a good choice if you must stay downtown. The guest rooms are nearly on par with some strip hotels. The food is good without being exceptional. The staff are quite friendly, and the casino is easy to navigate. On the negative side, the pool is very attractive but is a complete mob scene. Also, the registration desk is awkwardly located, and check-in lines build quickly. Finally, this is a very high density property and the casino always seems crowded. However, the rates are quite reasonable.
"Old" Vegas at it's best. This is my favorite hotel downtown, beautiful place, screams Old Vegas, good resturant right near the front entrance (name escapes me, but you can't miss it and the food was AWESOME) Stunning pool area for a downtown hotel complete with shark tank! If you can swing it get one of the two story suites with half spiral staircase, spa tub, huge sitting room, bar, tv up and down stairs, cieling to floor wondows complete with remote control blinds! It was like living like a high roller for five days, was incredible
This venerable spot still shines as one of downtown's most luxurious hotel-casinos..
In Short
The Golden Nugget, the class of downtown Las Vegas, has again gone under the knife. New owner, Landry's Restaurants, has put its stamp on the legendary property adding Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse, Lillie's Noodle House and the Italian Trattoria-style Grotto from its restaurant chain. The Tank, a circular pool complex, features a 200,000-gallon shark tank with a three-story water slide, and guests will find two high-limit slot salons, state-of-the-art spa and a 600-seat showroom among the other amenities.
have confidence to stay here.
This hotel has seen some changes in ownership over the past few years. It's the best place I've stayed downtown, and I've stayed in all the hotels and in this one 30 times.( on business here often) There's some remodelling going on but the pool should be ready soon.
I like: large rooms, clean rooms, easy access to parking stucture, ambience, good service on valet parking, good buffet
I didn't like: Even though I've stayed 30 times and they know it from their computer, the front desk always treats me like they've never seen me and prefer they won't see me again. But if I put my ego aside, I realize it's still the best place downtown and they probably know that so why treat me special.
Can Beat this!!.
Heading out tonight for Vegas again, and we will be staying at the Golden Nugget AGAIN!!! What a wonderful Hotel/Casino. The rooms are nice, comfortable, and a great size!!! The hotel is a little older looking than some of the ones on the strip, but you can't beat the location. Downtown is a great place to stay, and a fun place to wander around at night, between the casinos only. As a former resident of Vegas, DO NOT wander to any of the little side streets around downtown.
The Casino was great, as was the food. The main cafe, dining area serves great food and a wonderful strawberry waffle. We ate there many times and was satisfied every time!!!
Golden Junk-it.
Ugh! Too bad the pool was under construction and they made NO accomodations for guests to be served by another hotel. They also did not inform us of that either. Concierge was not even helpful after I interrupted co-workers conversation about what they did last night, they weren't helpful. I asked them to call the transport service I had the card to to schedule a return trip to the airport. Instead of 4 star service taking care of it, they directed me to the far wall phone with all transportaion numbers listed. Yuck.
I will not be returning or reccommending it to anyone!
Nice place Downtown. It was our first time going to Vegas and this hotel was a great deal! Next time I go however I will be staying on the strip. You either had to take a taxi (expensive) or the bus (pain!) to get anywhere on the strip. The hotel was very nice and the service was good too, it is just too far away from everything.
Not For The Rich. While it is one of the nicest hotels in downtorn Las Vegas, I am confused as to how it could end up as a place that the "rich" stay. It has been (or was?) used for years to house local jurors who had been sequestered (not allowed to go home at night) and the accomodations are adequate for that purpose. The restaurants are fantastic though. For the rich, there are far nicer hotels in Vegas that offer more than four walls and a bed. For the budget conscious, its a fine place to stay and to eat but plan to spend a lot on taxicabs to get to the Strip to see the nicer places Vegas has to offer.
golden nugget. Excellent hotel and value, but desk clerks are not very accomodating to guests.
