As a local, I disagree- Swiss Cafe is not a favorite and is totally underwhelming. "Quaint alpine setting"?? It's in a Wal-Mart shopping center and the patio is nearly on Tropicana... that should give an idea of how quaint it is. Having traveled Germany, France and Switzerland, I'm not sure how the Pucks can offer such substandard fare in their names and in a town so proud of it's cuisine. From a group order of two appetizers, eight entrees and three desserts, none can be recommended. Swiss Onion soup (bread not toasted, chicken broth too salty and cheese was bland). Pasta Alfredo portion was moderate but quality was compared to that of Sbarro's in an airport. Swiss Schnitzel, German Schnitzel, St. Moritz Schnitzel, Beef Stoganoff, Bavarian Rib Chop and Chicken Marsala were small portions for the price and average in taste and presentation. The rosti and vegetables failed to impress anyone either. The desserts continued the trend... the Apple Strudel was soggy and average, the Turtle cheesecake turned out to be Kahlua cheesecake and the German Chocolate cake turned out to be Black Forest cake. The coffee was served cold and weak. All in all, we would all recommend Gordon Biersch or Hofbrauhaus if you want very good schnitzel or past dishes and Melting Pott (I know it's mispelled but site won't allow the correct spelling) if you want the fondue. Despite the $ rating for Swiss Cafe and $$ for the others, they wil be about the same total bill if you consider the high drink and dessert prices at Swiss Cafe. We understand now why the last user review was in 2002. Bon Appetit! Guten Appetit!

Superb European food in a quaint alpine setting.. In Short
Hats off to Wolfgang and Mary Haubold for keeping pace with Las Vegas' ever-burgeoning culinary scene. This enchanting restaurant has been a local favorite since 1972, and the reason is evident. Decked out as a quaint, cozy alpine chalet, the dining room is filled with hundreds of vintage European curios. It's charming, fun, and Old World romantic to the max. Teh food is fresh, scrumptious Swiss cuisine that incorporates French, German and Italian influences.

Der Sweeten Sauerbraten. Without a doubt the best sauerbraten I have ever had. For all those who, like most, have missed out on german food as it has gone out of vogue over the last few years, don't miss this place. It is the kind of place to go on a night when you aren't in a hurry. They serve a Spaten Optimator beer that goes perfectly with the sour beef that is so tender you don't need a knife. Their red cabbage is spiced just right and the spaetzle is crispy on the outside and soft in the center. I was getting tired of our Puck infused fusion fiasco in town the other night when a friend had me waiting for an hour to eat at the noisiest PF Chang's ever, and the Swiss Cafe was exactly what I needed, traditional German food, great fondue, and a slow pace.

the find of your trip. The locals have known about this one since 72. You can't afford to miss it. OUTSTANDING food, Great Service, and Friendly atmosphere. After your 1st visit they consider you a regular...and you will be! To good to go only once!
