Cute decorations. Nice wait staff - nice smokey aromas outdoors - bland flavors in the meats (beef had excessive fat, but the pork was tender) - very vinegary but crunchy coleslaw - strangely flavored baked beans - and tough, overcooked crust on the hush puppies. Nice sweet potato, but the cinnamon did not enhance the potato and should be replaced by butter. Tea much too sweet. Nice place, but disappointing food unless one prefers food without much flavor. Not sure how this quality of cooking won any James Beard award. BBQ should be infused into the meats, and it wasn't. Wish it had been, because we would have been repeat customers with guests.
Far from the best:. The King has left the building and probably never showed up to this spot. Maybe he should be using the actual winning recipe here because the food I had was far from winning on any scale. The ribs were dry sauce was nothing special or anything you couldn't taste off a shelf at the grocery store. I would not go out of my way to eat at this place. Maybe if your options are limited to eating a Rib sandwich from McDonalds, or eating here, then I might even say then Mc'D's might be worth the stomach ace.
The King of Memphis is alive and smokin' in Las Vegas (the King Of Barbecue, that is)..
In Short
Ranked several times as the World Champion of the Memphis International BBQ Cook-Off, Mike Mills has brought his legendary family recipes and Southern congeniality to Vegas. Entrees run the gamut, from green garden salads and charbroiled shrimp to world-famous chicken, pork and beef, all smoked and spiced. Meals come complete with a choice of two side dishes: the vinegar-based coleslaw, baked beans and sweet potatoes sprinkled with cinnamon.
Top-shelf Tennessee Dry Rub.
This is my top choice for BBQ when I'm in Vegas. The previous review may be correct, you may have gotten some over cooked Baby Back ribs (return them). I have been to this place many many times and I always order the St Louis ribs. As the menu states "the porterhouse of ribs." Always pink (because of the smoke process) and very moist. These ribs don't need sauce but Memphis also provides a fine sauce. And yes the "sides" are so-so, but I'm not there for sides. Several of my friends order the "King" pulled pork sandwich, it comes with the slaw on top. The Ball jar's of Apple Ice Tea are always recommended.
If your gonna review a place I would suggest you go there more then ONCE. I've been to this location at least 30 times and never had a bad meal. Also been to the NLV location (after the NASCAR races) and find that location to be just as great. Exit the track to the east, go south (on LVB) about a mile or 2, it on your right. It's never been busy, we get to watch the congestion and the team haulers cruise past us, eat some fine BBQ then get back on the road after all others have gone. BUT KEEP THIS A SECRET !
Las Vegas BBQ scene is poor.. Being from the midwest and well educated in BBQ I would have to say that I was disappointed in the effort of this place. Portions are well sized, meat is way over-cooked, side dishes were the biggest disappointment. I hope someone realizes that Vegas needs a real BBQ place. I will not return to dine here.
Some of the best BBQ I've had!. We love this place! Every time we are in Las Vegas, we make the trip. Try the fried pickles! You'll be surprised at how good they are. And the prices are excellent! Worth the trip off-strip!
Sweet Tea in Vegas!!!.
I love Memphis BBQ for a great Lunch!!! It's usually pretty fast and the food is good. I prefer Warm Springs over Nellis, especially at lunch time, since the Nellis location gets alot of military guys at lunch and if you don't get there before noon there is a wait...
BBQ is great though, and probably the best in Vegas.
User review by missklubkitty. I saw the citysearch rating and was excited to try this place. Checked it out and was extremely disappointed. This is definately a poor excuse for barbecue!
The way BBQ should be!. This is the way BBQ should be done! The owner and I grew up in the same part of the country and this is how I remember BBQ being cooked, open coals and with fruit wood.
Best BBQ Anwhere. Simply the best BBQ anywhere. If you want BBQ in Vegas.. look no further. No place can even compare. If you live in the area I suggest trying each diffrent entre as you return. I usually get the slow roasted chicken, but the beef is excellent as well. Also I suggest you buy a couple bottles of their award winning sauce and Magic Dust. The location near Nellis AFB is excellent as well.
