Editorial Review for Memphis Championship Barbecue – by Bethany Souza

In Short
Ranked several times as the World Champion of the Memphis International BBQ Cook-Off, Mike Mills has brought his legendary family recipes and Southern congeniality to Vegas. Entrees run the gamut, from green garden salads and charbroiled shrimp to world-famous chicken, pork and beef, all smoked and spiced. Meals come complete with a choice of two side dishes: the vinegar-based coleslaw, baked beans and sweet potatoes sprinkled with cinnamon.

Insider Tips

The Extras

It's a family recipe: the meat is slowly smoked in a hickory pit, seasoned with "Magic Dust" (made from 18 different spices) and a splash of a succulent sauce so secret that not even the chef is privy to all of the ingredients.

Well, as far as BBQ places go in Las Vegas, this one is by far the best. Their sausage link was delicious and the brisket was tender and flavorful. The choice of sauces was pretty good as well. The sides are always iffy and you just have to pick and choose. I would eat here again although only on pay day as they are a little pricey. However, most BBQ places are expensive due to the high cost of meat. Someone mentioned eating at Famous Daves....DO NOT waste your time. That place ranks right up there with the Salt Lick in just plain ol' bad food. And you most definately do not get your money's worth. Memphis Championship BBQ is, in my opinion, the best that Las Vegas has to offer but certainly not "the best" ever.

Pros: Good food, good service easy access.

Cons: Little too expensive but do-able

Heard many good things about this place but turned out to be very disappointing. As previous writer had mentioned cole slaw is very vinegary and besides that not much flavor. Ordered combo of beef brisket and 1/2 smoked/bbq chicken. The chicken was actually pretty good .. nice smokey flavor and very tender meat which slid off the bone. The beef brisket on the other hand was horrible! It was very tough and fatty and also lacked any flavor. Had rice pilaf for a side and it tasted sour like they used the coleslaw dressing on it! Service was slightly above average but nothing special, at least the server noticed that I didn't eat the beef brisket to take it off of the bill. I would recommend Buckingham Smokehouse BBQ or even Famous Daves (chain restaraunt) over this place. I haven't been to Lucile's but have heard they are very good. Take my advice and go elsewhere for bbq that will be worth spending your money!

Pros: plenty of parking space (should have suspected something when I noticed this)

Cons: fatty/tough meat lacking flavor, not good value for the price
