This Grand Canal cantina had some great canal-front seating and twice daily happy hours (3-6pm and 9pm to close) with $3 beers and cocktails and $5 margaritas, which was hard to beat if you want a quick drink break while exploring the Venetian.

Food or drinks and dessert? – If you want just drinks and dessert this is the place. For mexican food it really depends on your background on this type of food. The salsa, chips and guacamole was good, but how much can one mess up here? The vegetables are over cooked , few and small. The meat is good and tender. The portions are for diet concious and definitely not average. Forget about a doggie bag or leftovers here. There are no soups and or salads with the dishes. The tips are included for a party of 8 or more so you are stuck with the service like it or not they get 18% tip. Go when you can wait over 20 minutes to be served regardless of the amount of customers they have. There are no special accomodations based on your diet needs and no supplements. Expect to box your own take home if you can feed it to your dog. The manager is not accomodating and frankly and doesn't care if you stay or leave or if you liked the food or not. The clients keep coming in for the view of the hotel so they really have no reason to please you anyway. You decide if you want to throw money away or not. They like young people with little expectations of them. e went 12/2010 maybe they will change after a few complaints but why would they need to? The customers go for drnks anyway,

Service is HORRIBLE, food never came. – We went to the bar where there were only 4 other people. We placed our order of tacos and a quesadilas. The tacos came in 5 minutes from a waiter, not the bartender. I tried to ask the bartender where my food was but she was too busy, and we sat in front of the cash register. There was another bartender but he kept to the side doing his own thing and ignored everyone. The tacos arrived and my wife ate the first, then second, and still no quesadilas. Then she ate her 3rd taco, and still I didn't get my food. 25 minutes goes by, and still no quesadilas. I'm thinking, it's just cheese and tortillas, how hard is it. When my wife finished the plate and the bartender picked up her plate, I finally get to ask her, when is my food coming out, we were hoping to eat together. She goes to kitchen comes out, says "It will be right out". Then she goesand puts the order into the register. I'm thinking WTF. A couple sits next to us and asks for a beer, the bartender says they are out of that particular beer, and I tell the couple I've waited over 35 minutes for a quesadila and they're probably out of that too. The bartender gives me a dirty look. The couple responds, "They probably had to go to mexico to get it", and we both laugh. I tell another bartender, I want to cash out my bill. Just then the quesadila arrives, and I tell her "I don't want it we are leaving, take it back, you made me loose my appitite". I went over and talked to the manager on the way out and explained how with 6 customers at the bar and 2 bartenders, we were ignored, never checked on, and how my food never came in a timely manner, so we are leaving. He looked up, smiled, and said, "Well it is ready now, do you want it to go". There are sooooo many better places to eat. AVOID THIS PLACE!

C'mon.... give me a break guy's! – Man, the previous two reviews were a 5 and 2-star. I guessed wrong by going with the 5-star review. Believe me, this food is bland! The guy that tried too emphasize that was right on. I went there having to been to other Mexican restaurants like "Lindo Michocan" (that got real good reviews) and expecting the best. I was wrong. The waiter was extremely nice and attentive. The ambient was nice as well. We ordered the guacamole. It tasted pretty good and they gave a decent amount I'll admit. We ordered the watermelon aguas fresca and it was a bit too sweet to be authentic, but it was ok. Too bad they don't give refills... I don't think they realize that 90% of hole-in-the-wall mexican joints treat aguas fresca as a given. No biggie though. Then the waiter (hispanic, as are we) told us about the menu items. They all sounded good, but he was quick to point out that there were certain things that he did not recommend to us(chile relleno is sweet, enchiladas are normal enchiladas..) but he said that their carne asada was outstanding. My wife chose the enchiladas anyways because he said they were nothing fancy, but they were good and she had a craving. I ordered the carne asada to see what these guys had to offer. It was $29 and their most expensive entree. Wow, it came out all fancy on top of some chilaquilles(mexican staple food) and my wifes plate looked delicious as well. The carne asada is really a new york steak style cut and has nothing to do with "carne asada, but it was real good.. small but good. Too bad that was were the fun stoped! My beans were sweet and the chilaquilles tasted like water soaked tortillas, both completely unauthentic. My wifes whole plate(beans, rice, and enchilladas) was a joke. All the food was bland. 2 people+tip= $71! Please, will not go back.I have tried other "higher class" Mexican joints atmospheres, but they did the great presentations PLUS outstanding food. This place does not! Trust me. Try something like Lindo Michocan. Good luck!

my favorite Mexican restaurant.. – This is by far, my favorite Mexican restaurant. I have been here at least once for every visit that I have made to Las Vegas, to mark the completeness of my time spent in the desert :) I have brought several friends, and they are as pleased as I am. I remember my first time dining here, as someone at a nearby table attempted to order a chimichanga. The server said to me "this is Mexican SOUL food! None of that Taco Bell stuff..", and he was right. Everything here (from the fabulous choices of margarita, to the horchata and desserts), is SOOO finger-licking good. After one visit, I had finally had enough of being without my favorite horchata, and asked the chef for a recipe. Not only did he write it down for me, but he emailed it to me as well! As I'm writing this review, my mouth is watering..but I know that nothing in Seattle will compare to this food.

Outstanding Mexican food gets all jazzed up at this canal-side eatery. – In Short
Finally, a Mexican restaurant that dishes up far more than the usual expectations. This "Little Canyon" (offshoot of super Chef Stephen Pyles' Star Canyon downstairs) overlooks the Venetian's grand canal, and combines the upscale with Old Mexico charm. Even an ordinary chili relleno becomes spectacular when it's plucked fat and fresh, then stuffed with several cheeses, almonds and dried fruit. A simple empanada transforms when filled with marinated grilled wild mushrooms and cheese.

Bland Mexican Food – While the food was presented well, it did not measure up in taste. Be prepared to salt, salt, salt. And if you're the type that likes spicy food, forget it.

Mr. – I have had the pleasure of dining at Taqueria twice in the last two years. Each time it was a very memorable experience. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented. The service, while not perfect, is quick and cordial. Considering all this, as well as the ambiance of the Grand Canal at the Venetian and the very reasonable prices, I feel that Taqueria Canonita is an excellent value an a wonderful place to dine.
