This inspired eatery takes the flavors of Old Mexico and serves them with an exciting, New American ambience--all beside the gracefully flowing Grand Canal. Experience true "south of the border" taste and tradition with authentic Mexican offerings like chile rellenos, tacos al carbon or shrimp quesadillas. The taste of their handmade corn tortillas alone is enough to transport you to another world. The decor is as vivid as the menu with a casual ambience, high ceiling and bright, bold colors. Taqueria Ca?onita's lively exhibition kitchen is the restaurant's centerpiece. Enjoy your meal amidst the sculpted steel and wrought-iron gates, colorful Mexican tiles and authentic Mexican folk art. Even better, Taqueria Ca?onita's patio is set beside the Grand Canal, offering terrific views of our Venetian streetscapes and passing gondolas.

In Short
Finally, a Mexican restaurant that dishes up far more than the usual expectations. This "Little Canyon" (offshoot of super Chef Stephen Pyles' Star Canyon downstairs) overlooks the Venetian's grand canal, and combines the upscale with Old Mexico charm. Even an ordinary chili relleno becomes spectacular when it's plucked fat and fresh, then stuffed with several cheeses, almonds and dried fruit. A simple empanada transforms when filled with marinated grilled wild mushrooms and cheese.

My fav Mexican restaurant in Vegas. Great food, nice location with a view of the Grand Canal in the Venetian. Chips were fresh and salsa was tasty. I had the Santa Rosa Barbacoa de Puerco which was cooked to perfection and nicely spiced. Wait person was friendly and quick with refills, drinks were strong but yummy. Highly recommended, would return.

The Taqueria Canonita was actually much better than we thought it was going to be. The shreaded beef tacos and the rice and beans were beyond good. The service was also great.

Man, the previous two reviews were a 5 and 2-star. I guessed wrong by going with the 5-star review. Believe me, this food is bland! The guy that tried too emphasize that was right on. I went there having to been to other Mexican restaurants like "Lindo Michocan" (that got real good reviews) and expecting the best. I was wrong. The waiter was extremely nice and attentive. The ambient was nice as well. We ordered the guacamole. It tasted pretty good and they gave a decent amount I'll admit. We ordered the watermelon aguas fresca and it was a bit too sweet to be authentic, but it was ok. Too bad they don't give refills... I don't think they realize that 90% of hole-in-the-wall mexican joints treat aguas fresca as a given. No biggie though. Then the waiter (hispanic, as are we) told us about the menu items. They all sounded good, but he was quick to point out that there were certain things that he did not recommend to us(chile relleno is sweet, enchiladas are normal enchiladas..) but he said that their carne asada was outstanding. My wife chose the enchiladas anyways because he said they were nothing fancy, but they were good and she had a craving. I ordered the carne asada to see what these guys had to offer. It was $29 and their most expensive entree. Wow, it came out all fancy on top of some chilaquilles(mexican staple food) and my wifes plate looked delicious as well. The carne asada is really a new york steak style cut and has nothing to do with "carne asada, but it was real good.. small but good. Too bad that was were the fun stoped! My beans were sweet and the chilaquilles tasted like water soaked tortillas, both completely unauthentic. My wifes whole plate(beans, rice, and enchilladas) was a joke. All the food was bland. 2 people+tip= $71! Please, will not go back.I have tried other "higher class" Mexican joints atmospheres, but they did the great presentations PLUS outstanding food. This place does not! Trust me. Try something like Lindo Michocan. Good luck!
