What People Are Saying About Tropicana Resort and Casino

Featured Review

In Short – The Tropicana stands alone as the last of old Vegas on the south end of the Strip, which explains the casino's slogan, "Where Las Vegas Begins." Lately the casino has downplayed its island theme and put forth a more subtle, "we're-a-Vegas-classic" vibe. For fans of the myth and magic of old Vegas, the casino has one of those giant, free-pull slot machines as well as displays of casino chips, photos, special videos, and other casino-culture oddities.

Editor's Tips

The Extras:
In front of the hotel, a tiger habitat (an obvious take on Siegfried & Roy's bit at the Mirage) houses illusionist Rick Thomas' stage partner.
Save Money:
If you happen to find a lower published confirmable rate for the Tropicana anywhere else, theyll gladly match it. Just email to hotelres@tropicanalv.com or fax proof to 702-739-2492 of the lower rate and they'll honor the lower rate on the spot.
Know Before You Go:
The pool is one of the best in the city.
Historic Setting:
Besides being home to the longest-running production show in town ("Folies Bergere," where classic showgirls still reign), the Trop houses the Casino Legends Hall of Fame.

Hopefully the remodel included the staff!

by roxydog101 at Citysearch

I stayed at this gem of a property last June (2010). To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The descriptions online indicated the rooms were updated, and I would have at the least expected modern and functional. The desk manager on the day I checked in told me if I didn't like they're hotel to go elsewhere, great advice and customer service; I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED.

Our room was dirty, grout missing in the shower, stains on the carpet, mold in the bathroom, holes in the paint in the room and bathroom, worn upholstry on the furniture, and as an added bonus it was 100+ all weekend and the air conditioning didn't work.

For my troubles they comped me a dinner, however the room, hotel in general, and espectially the customer service was so horrible I requested and was denied a discount off the room rate. I wrote in to complain, and called, both of which were not returned. When I was in town a month later I stopped by to talk to the management, and was left a message a few days later, but in the ensuing game of phone tag I was never called back.

Extremely Friendly!

by goamsil at Citysearch

I didn't stay at the Tropicana during my visit to Las Vegas but I did see several shows there. Out of all the places I did go [and I can't think of one I missed] Tropicana's staff was EXTREMELY helpful [without being prompted] and friendly. The attitude there will definitely bring me back. I also appreciate that the staff were actually dressed, unlike a lot of other resorts where women were dressed in next to nothing tackiness. Tropicana's employees were still a little risque, but classy at that. Also, props for hosting the BEST Cirque Du Soleil show. :)

  • Pros: Staff is exceptional.
  • Cons: none!

The Staff and Hosts make All the Difference (Service, not Glamour, is Key for Regulars)

by jamesgPhD at Citysearch

After reading other reviews, I had to contribute the following. We stayed at the Trop every New Year's Eve (as well as other trips in-between) faithfully since about 1999. Although the hotel is dated, the holiday parties and service is great for regulars and moderate-high players. We loved it and were always comped across the board! However, when our host left in 2007, we heard nothing more....no invites from the new host, no calls, nothing. I called him and he would say "Yep..don't worry..we're waiting for the room grid??," with no other calls. I found out where my prior host went- luckily, to the Harrah's system where I had minimal play. We contacted her....she set up a room immediately (with limo & show)....and we have been going since. Bottom line, if your a good and regular player, it is the host or staff that make the difference. We still do stop by to play (about an hour or so) because of a friendly-fun-bartender we visit- BUT, we like to keep most of our play where we stay.....now the Flamingo.

  • Pros: Old Vegas Environment
  • Cons: Weak Casino hosts

TIME TO TEAR IT DOWN

by localdude at Citysearch

Lame WHOREtel. One elevator a tower makes you wait in line for at least 5-10 minutes. The machines never pay out and the cocktail waitresses are rude. If you get a garden room you are screwed because the deafening sound of the pool party stage makes it unable to take a nap or simply relax, thank god we had a tower but the elevator problem kinda takes care of that.

Its worth paying $20-$40 more to stay somewhere more decent and not infiltrated by prostitutes 24/7 scouring the casino floor.

  • Pros: nice pool area
  • Cons: everything else, bad service. horrible buffett

Good Value for Las Vegas Blvd.

by bootsytown at Citysearch

I booked this place on a weekend for the price and really wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, it is not that flashy but the location is great and we had a terrific view from our tower room (ask about upgrades at check-in, it was only another $20 per night for us to move from the motel-style rooms to the Island Tower). The pool looked nice but we didn't have time to check it out.

  • Pros: Good Value and Location
  • Cons: Rooms are getting worn
