One of downtown's best.
This place has saved my life more than once. The first papusa I ever had in my life was here and since then, nothing else really ever comes close.
Try the Papusa de Loroco - it has some kind of flower bud mixed in with the cheese. Its grand.
Also good is the Machaca con Huevos on the breakfast menu. Really good the morning after a night out.
Oh and they really should raise their prices... ;P

Drop into this casual and quiet family cafe for a taste of El Salvador..
In Short
This eatery's menu is replete with pupusas and other Salvadorean dishes. However, the restaurant is located in a largely Mexican neighborhood, and as a result the menu has been modified to include Mexican favorites as well. Pupusas are the hallmark of Salvadorean cooking and Esmeralda's has them in spades. One can't go wrong with any of the shrimp dishes, and for a unique drink, there's the liquefied fruit cocktail.

Best Salvadorean I have ever had.
On Charleston two blocks away from the historic Huntridge Theater we found this great little Salvadorean restaurant. The food, experience and the staff have made this a great choice time and time again. It's the only place in town I know where to get a Regia beer, a papusa and a shrimp cocktail. The decor makes you feel at home if you were from Salvador! I can't rave enough about this place, my favorite restaurant in the city.
