Editorial Review for Florida Cafe Cuban Restaurant – by Donna Yahner
In Short
Located on the seedier side of the Strip, amidst a motley assortment of ethnic restaurants and run down wedding chapels, this is a friendly standout. Cheerful yellow walls, a Moorish blue tiled fountain and wide French doors make this ethnic eatery an inviting place for a down-home Cuban meal. A variety of main dishes include chicken, fish, pork and beef, usually laden with garlic, onion, peppers or sausage.

We took a guest from out of town for dinner to this restaurant. We got there at 6.30pm on a Sunday night, and ordered our food, without any special requests. Most tables were empty, and there were plenty of waiters, most of them watching a show on TV. Over an hour later we were still waiting for our food, while other guests, who had arrived long after us, had already been served their orders. We approached one of the waiters to check on our order, since our waitress completely ignored us, let alone gave us an ETA for our food. Another 15 minutes went by, with no food in sight. Well, not ours, anyway. After we asked again, the food was finally served, an hour and 15 minutes after we had ordered. Unfortunately two of our three orders were obviously wrong. The food did not even resemble the description in the menu. When we called the waitress, she said it was what we had ordered, and showed severe attitude. At this point we decided to leave. We left $24 on the table, thinking that this should cover two rounds of drinks, and left the restaurant. In the parking lot, the manager came running after us, yelling that we had not paid for our drinks. It turned out that the drinks came up to a total of $28, and what we left was $4 short. I don't feel that we should have paid for the drinks at all, after a completely ruined dinner experience. But being hunted down and cornered in a public parking lot like a criminal because of $4 was just utterly embarrassing and completely unnecessary. To avoid an even more unpleasant scene, we gave her another $10, just to get her to leave us alone. Travelers and locals beware; white people are not welcome in this restaurant.

I JUST ATE AT THE FLORIDA CAFE. WHAT A GREAT PLACE. EXTREMELY NICE SERVERS THAT WILL HELP YOU WITH THE MENU. I WAS TREATED TO THE BEST ARROZ CON POLLO IN TOWN (RICE AND CHICKEN). MY WIFE HAD THE MARISCADAS (A BLEND OF SEAFOOD IN A DELICIOUS TOMATO SAUCE). AFTER DINNER WE HAD THE A DESERT THAT WAS CREATED BY THEM. IT WAS THE THREE MILK CAKE WITH FLAN ON TOP. WOW WAS IT DELICIOUS. NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY HAD TO USE A WHEEL BARREL TO GET ME OUT OF THAT. I DON'T THINK YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.
