Decent Selection at Insanely High Prices
by Grimmzombie
I used to love Record City. I visit Vegas once every year and have for the past ten years and visit this store up every time I visit. My main interest is in vinyl, and they do have a decent selection of stuff that's difficult to find anywhere other than Gemm or eBay. They used to be priced reasonably as well, but this year ('09) saw a dramatic increase in prices that seemed way out of touch with what the albums are actually worth. I always tightened my buttocks out of fear when walking into Wax Trax (where the owner states flat out that he's EXPENSIVE and has no set prices on anything). I felt the same way after walking out of Record City this year. Sad to see, but for what it's worth Zio did have some decent vinyl and their prices were sane.
I'm hoping next year that Record City will return to being the reasonable store that it used to be.
Bottom line: I've spent anywhere from $100 to $300 in years past at Record City. This year I spent $0.
- Pros: Nice Selection
- Cons: Expensice, cramped, slow turnover
the decline of record city
by charlielv
over the years the selection at all the remaining record city location in las Vegas has continued to decline. Nowadays all the really good stuff is funnel to their e-bay listings and auction. The stores are stale, cluttered and dirty. The staff unfriendly and rude. Not an enjoyable shopping experience. Oh for the good old days when they had a decent inventory and cared about the customer.
- Cons: dirtiest store in town
THERE'S SOMETHING FOR ALMOST EVERYONE!

With 4 locations, this store offers many options. They carry everything from bargain to collectible LPs and 45s, CDs, DVDs, VHS, cassette tapes, music memorabilia and more! The selection is wonderful and the staff is usually very helpful and friendly. For those who love to bargain-hunt, this is a collector's paradise. Although you'll probably find your own personal favorite, it is well worth visiting each location. Since most of their inventory comes from collections or customers trading in their own stuff, their inventory changes frequently and it's great checking out all the new stuff that comes in!
- Pros: good prices, large selection, mostly well organized
- Cons: no listening stations
