NY NY. My parents grew up in the Marina and they have been linked to here for years. You walk in the front door and you just get enveloped in the smell of the Italian food waiting inside. They have the best deli meats and cheeses and be sure to pick up some raviolis to take home. Mozzarella is shipped in fresh from Italy twice a week as well. This place just reminds me why I like being Italian

Excellent pizza, authentic entrees.. Being a New Yorker at heart, the search for good Italian food is a never ending quest. I recently was told to go Montesanto's by a fellow NYer I work with, but the place was so far from me in So. Highlands, I never gave it a shot. Well I went for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. When walking in to this deli, you feel like you're back in the NYC area, you wouldn't be surprised to see Tony Soprano stopping by for a slice or a sub. It's kitsch and cute, a throwback to the way things used to be, before corporations controlled everything. When trying new Italian places I almost always order Chicken Marsala, because it's simplicity makes flaws stand out well. Their marsala sauce was light and classic, with tons of sauteed mushrooms and onions on it. While not the best I've ever had, it was clearly homemade and satisfying. My date had a dish they call penne ala Nicholas, basically mixed veggies in a plum tomato marinara with plenty of fresh mozzarella on top. I liked it, the sauce was clean, with a good balance between acid and sweetness. I love huge chunks of stewed tomatoes in my sauce, they're very good for slurping up with bread. The bread and garlic knots, are actually very good. The semolina loaf is chewy and has a wonderful crust. The knots are deep fried, which is typically not how we do them in NY, but were really good and not too greasy. We also had to try the pizza which, honestly, is as close as I've seen to genuine NY pizza in the valley in 3 years. The cheese, Polly-O, has a flavor and texture that I grew up eating by the handful. The sauce was tangy and not too sweet, and the crust was NOT SWEET, nicely thin and crispy but still managed to have some chewyness, the hallmarks of good pizza dough. Of course we had to have a small plain cannoli to top it all off, which was decadent while simple. Nice crispy shell, creamy, sweet riccota filling with just a hint of anise. Lovely. Oh, and we had tons leftover! I'm coming back here for sure.

A Slice of New York. Yep. These guys have the New York style pizza down right. It's really hard to find a good pizza in Vegas. This is one of the better ones. Unfortunatly citysearch doesn't offer some of the other great pizza places as an option to review. The garlic knots are yummy too. I haven't ordered anything but the pizza BUT seeing the other things coming out of that kitchen....well it all looks wonderful.

The Montesano family brings Italian flavors from the old South Bronx to Vegas.. In Short
On Saturdays, the crowds line up for the semolina, cheese breads and many Italian desserts. Everything here is made from scratch, from the bread on the table to the sauce on the pizza. The pizza fresca is made with fresh marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella (also made in-house.) Other winners include an antipasto salad and cavatelli with sauteed broccoli rabe. For those who prefer red sauce, there's traditional spaghetti and meatballs.

Everything is Homemade!. Whoa! This place is awesome! The owners are so friendly and are real Italian guys -- big guys who can cook, too! I love the pizza with the HOMEMADE mozarella cheese on top! Everything is homemade and you can tell, down to the pastas, cheese and pizza crust! Good menu, lasagna and pizzas are the best.

Best Red Sauce in Town!. This restaurant is one that I frequent at least 3-4 times a month - it's consistently great food, and they provide a real variety. They have great pasta and gravy & pizza, etc., but they also have a large selection of more evolved options as well. Plus, it's affordable and friendly.
