Editorial Review for Fitzgerald Casino and Hotel – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
For a short period of time, Fitzgerald's was the most shamelessly cheesy casino downtown. In 1996, the casino revamped the entrance and added a splashier neon rainbow, complete with Mr. O'Lucky, its leprechaun mascot. He later disappeared along with the fake tree and the piece of blarney stone that once took up precious gambling space on the first level. Now the Irish theme is more discrete, although McDonalds is still a prominent part of the exterior.

Insider Tips

Elvis Sightings

Elvis impersonators are especially in vogue right now, probably because of several new Elvis-theme slot machines. It may or may not be a distraction to gamblers to endure one of any number of Elvi crooning "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" in the lounge.

View

The second-floor Lookout Lounge offers a great view of the light show just outside on the Fremont Experience and McDonald's also has a view of the constantly improving light show.

The Extras

Machines surround the small table area on the first floor of the casino and more machines and restaurants can be found upstairs.

We always make our way to the Fitz to play blackjack when in Vegas. The atmosphere is that of 'Old' Vegas instead of the one found on the Strip. When it comes to food Limericks steakhouse is a great bargain. The food is great and the price is right for the quality. The staff in the casino and the restaurant were courteous and helpful.

Pros: Value and price

To start they had me set up with three people in my room and it was only me! Then I am informed after I check in that each time I used the phone in the room I paid for, would cost me a addtional $1.00 per call or $1.00 each time I connected my pc to the internet (how cheap is this?!) Some of the elevators had air most did not, one day I had to wait for 30min on the 26th floor to get a elevator then it stopped on every floor going down (apparently this on the only one working out of 6)! The rooms are not as they appear on the travel site, my view was a lot of parking lots. Security was rude! I was trying to take a pic of a band that was playing right outside and was told by security I needed to move on ( even though I'm a guest that helps pay him!) then three minutes later I seen him allowing two females doing what he would not me! The one highlight of my stay at the Fitzgerald's was the show by Steve Connely, he made my vacxation, he didn't profess to be Elvis, but he sure could sound like him! Excellent job and his back up singer was GREAT too in her solo act!! I think this hotel needs to loose a couple of stars and then maybe they will get it together. As of now I would never stay there again, a dumpy hotel would be better, at least they treated you decent! They claim to have the loosest slots downtown, DON'T beleive them!!!

Pros: Good entertainment in show room

Cons: Rude employees and cost of each telephpone call made from room.

The Irish theme was tastefully toned down, and gamblers still count on lots of good luck.  See the full editorial review.
