Editorial Review for Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino – by Ryan Slattery
In Short
The Golden Nugget, the class of downtown Las Vegas, has again gone under the knife. New owner, Landry's Restaurants, has put its stamp on the legendary property adding Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse, Lillie's Noodle House and the Italian Trattoria-style Grotto from its restaurant chain. The Tank, a circular pool complex, features a 200,000-gallon shark tank with a three-story water slide, and guests will find two high-limit slot salons, state-of-the-art spa and a 600-seat showroom among the other amenities.

This is my favorite hotel downtown, beautiful place, screams Old Vegas, good resturant right near the front entrance (name escapes me, but you can't miss it and the food was AWESOME) Stunning pool area for a downtown hotel complete with shark tank! If you can swing it get one of the two story suites with half spiral staircase, spa tub, huge sitting room, bar, tv up and down stairs, cieling to floor wondows complete with remote control blinds! It was like living like a high roller for five days, was incredible
Pros: beautiful "old" vegas hotel, pool, food
Cons: off strip, but plenty of hotels near it right on freemont street

This hotel has seen some changes in ownership over the past few years. It's the best place I've stayed downtown, and I've stayed in all the hotels and in this one 30 times.( on business here often) There's some remodelling going on but the pool should be ready soon. I like: large rooms, clean rooms, easy access to parking stucture, ambience, good service on valet parking, good buffet I didn't like: Even though I've stayed 30 times and they know it from their computer, the front desk always treats me like they've never seen me and prefer they won't see me again. But if I put my ego aside, I realize it's still the best place downtown and they probably know that so why treat me special.
Pros: Big rooms, good value, good downtown location, safe
Cons: AS of this writing there's construction going on, but that should be a "pro" later
