Editorial Review for Broadacres Swap Meet – by Dawn Pomento
In Short
This is one of the few places where the diverse demographics of the city are represented. They converge, mingle, eat and find good buys together. And for anyone who appreciates a good walk outdoors in the company of several hundred friendly strangers, this is a haven in a city that lacks public space. Where else could one score Sturgis '97 stickers, the "Rhinestone and Stud-setter" by Ronco (in its original box), new tools, new socks, old shoes and just about any other item that's legal to sell?

My family has been attending Broadacres Swap Meet for almost 10 years. We have been really impressed with the new management. They have been making a lot of improvements. Most notably is the big parking lot on Las Vegas Blvd. It used to take an hour to get out on busy days but now they have the police stopping traffic. It only took us 7 minutes last Sunday. What a relief. Also, we feel much safer now as there is a much bigger security presence and more police in the parking lots. I hear they are opening a new pizza restaurant run by the people who run Texas BBQ. We are going to check that out this weeked. This is still the cheapest/ best way to spend a nice weekend day.
Pros: Very large, great products, good food
Cons: Improve the asphalt

While I must admit the atmosphere was lively -the cultural atmosphere was quite evident. It's not like most swap meets we have experienced while attending them from all over the states inculding TX(best one ever is in Canton Tx "First Mondays") AK, NY & NYC, NM, CO, OK, IL, NJ, NH, VT, CT & CA. Broadacres apparently has recently changed owners & MANAGEMENT LACKING! We tried to get info from their online site which is seriously sparce in explaining "how to" acquire a sales space. It was so unclear & no one would answer the phone or e-mails we wrote. It's possible to just show up & stand in line to get a space. So we did that. We had packed up our friend's (who had gone to serve in Iraq) household of things which needed to be recycled/sold.We had a full trailer &Expedition was packed full too.Furniture, 2 ATV's & everything in between! NO 1ST COME 1ST SERVED HERE! We show up at the Broadacres location -stood inline only to find out the "new-comers" line was around on the opposite side of the location. We got in line at 5AM.There were 4 lines of vehicles to get into remaining spaces for the swap meet, we we excited to see some movement to enter the premises but what a shock & huge surprise when all of the people who were the "early birds"- got in line bright & early at 5AM were left in line still waiting 3 HOURS!!!! Seems they take the 'Living in Vegas' very seriously.Management thinks it's a fair &equitable to do a "LOTTERY" while choosing a line of vehicles to enter 1st! In other words -late commers choose the 4th line at 7:30AM drove right on in!While lines 1,2 and 3 had been waiting for hours!NO EXPLAINATION OF LOTTERY! One man chanced to get a space at 8AM, paid fees, only to find he could NOT park his vehicle in or NEAR his 4'x6'spot! His only access was to park some distance away, unload by carting his stuff while people were already shopping -chancing Shop-Lifters! NO REFUND either! SAME PRICE FOR ALL SIZED SPACES ranging from 4'x6' up to 30'x20'.
Pros: CHEEP products, many Garage Sale vendors
Cons: Management is seriously lacking in organization/fairness, NASTY facilites, BAD & unsafe parking.
