Feds are scared someone will hijack the dam.. To get into the visitors center you have to go through the same kind of security as at an airport. Empty all the pockets, have a small purse, go thru the metal detector. They act as if you are going to hijack the dam. This just stupid as anything you can easily carry is absolutely harmless to the dam. Another case of over stepping what is really needed and infringing on our rights. Save your money and look around outside. You can even go into the gift shop, where you can buy a knife, something they ban at the visitors center. Hypocritical? I think so.

Best historic land mark. I was so glad we decided to tour the hoover dam, for anyone traveling to Las Vegas, this is the place to see.

No gambling and no casinos make for a quaint, quiet retreat from Vegas glitz.. In Short
Due to its combined lack of gambling and severe local-growth restrictions, the town retains a charming, small-town feel. Green parks beckon visitors to spread a picnic under one of the 60-year-old trees. Pedestrian-friendly Old Town features quaint galleries, antique shops, cafes and historic neighborhoods. On a road trip? Nearby Lake Mead and Hoover Dam make it a natural stop on the way to or from these attractions.

Very interesting tour. I went on the "hard hat" tour. It lasted just over an hour and provided a full tour of the dam.

The guide was very knowledgeable and could answer all the questions asked.

The group was just the right size and we got to keep the hard hats at the end of the tour!!

Dam!!!. The dam is a very interesting tour. And if combined w/ a tour of the Grand Canyon even more interesting but expensive. Take them separate. The dam tour is nice and informative and one of the only times you can be in 2 states at the same time. Take it and find out what I mean.

A Dam Site better than anything else.. Hoover Dam is one of the best places to visit when in Las Vegas. I am a native of Las Vegas, and I have been recommending the tour of the Dam all my life. It is historical, educational and entertaining. The shear size of the project compared with the time it was built make it comparable to the pyramids in Egypt.

A world wide attraction. Here you have the history of the dam including a free movie about the building of the dam. This is a must see for anyone with an interest in the Great Depression, engineering or Southern Nevada History.
