Editorial Review for Pinocchio's Pizza & Subs – by Patricia Harris & David Lyon
The Scene
Great minds of several generations have sought sustenance at Pinocchio's, or "the Noch," as local students dub this Harvard Square legend. Seating is tight at the plastic-topped tables arrayed around a support post, and traffic flow to place an order at the counter is always confused. But it's a high-energy, upbeat spot to munch a slice among the undergrads cramming Plato and Planck.
The Food
Pizza dough is made fresh daily in the tiny kitchen. The regular crust is Abruzzi-perfect--neither the blackened cracker of "gourmet" houses nor the doughy blob of pizza chains. Dough-lovers should opt for the pricier deep-dish Sicilian. Both feature a bright red sauce and adequate (rather than gooey) cheese--classics in the old style. Because the bread is so fresh, subs are stupendous, with a steak-and-cheese that could stand with the fare at Geno's in South Philly. Tasty baked ziti with meatballs easily fuels an all-nighter.

Insider Tips
ParkingThe parking spaces across narrow Winthrop are inviting and usually empty, but they're private and you'll probably get towed before you get away with a pie. Best parking on a busy evening is the garage on Eliot Street ($3 for the first half hour).

You must have a slice of their delicious Sicilian pizza!! It is fabulous and I haven't met one person who thinks otherwise. I'm not sure about any other food there. The pizza is a bit pricey, but it's Harvard square. Pinocchio's is sort of hidden from view, it's behind Berk's shoe store. I would recommend getting the pizza to go since the place is kind of small and gets really packed by 12pm.

Pinocchio's does not impress me. Not because their pizza tastes bad, but because it does nothing to be really delicious. Harvard Square employees and college kids swear by it as a cheap-eats location, but the pizza doesn't stand out. Try Crazy Dough's Pizza in the Garage instead.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Tiny dining area
