Editorial Review for Yamato – by Martha Burr
In Short
The former Eurochow has been transformed by sparkling modern Japanese decor to create a dramatic and stunning two-story space under white arches and domed ceilings. Mod leather chairs surround dark tables, while mirrors reflect glass, orchids and burnished wood. The upstairs offers dazzling views of a huge sushi bar and lively Westwood diners of all types. Former Matsuhisa and Katsu chefs prepare high-end traditional sushi, plus dishes like braised Kurobuta pork belly, hot mushroom salad and sea bream with golden kiwi.

Insider Tips
Where to SitThe best seats are on the second floor, dead center under the mirror on a little raised dais, offering wonderful views of the entire restaurant.
What to DrinkA fairly substantial sake list features standard and high-end sakes ranging $18 to $300. The eclectic wine list offers reasonably priced glasses and bottles from Old World and New World regions. There's also a full bar.
The ExtrasA swank, cozy private dining room features red walls and a glittering chandelier, seats 8, and should be reserved in advance.

I entered Yamato with reluctance because I had had my wedding reception in the space when it was Eurochow. I was saddened to hear of Eurochow no longer being there because of the memories and the amazing experience I had. But my friends and I were hungry and I was generally curious about the changes with the restaurant, space, and service. We came in very late--near closing--but the manager Akira was so accommodating and welcoming. Our food was pretty good, by far the best Yamato I have ever been to, but it was the overall service of the manager and the server that really impressed me. They were very kind and genuine in their having us there--even though we were the last ones. Great price, good food, beautiful ambience, awesome service.
Pros: service, ambience

My buddies and I randomly walked into this place not really sure what to expect. We've passed by it a lot since we live near Westwood, but we never actually went in. The night turned out to be a great surprise! As soon as we went in, we were very impressed by how spacious it was and how nicely decorated. It looks like a very high class, high end type of place, but the prices turned out to be very very reasonable! I tried the black cod which literally melts in your mouth and my friend got a bunch of little appetizers like shiitake mushrooms, tofu, eggplant, and other Japanese dishes. Be sure to get the molten chocolate cake for dessert.
