Editorial Review for Company American Bistro at Luxor – by Ryan Slattery

The Scene
A rustic ski chalet with an Aspen-esque vibe, the dining room features stacked stone and wood highlighted by a wine wall and chandeliers constructed from antlers. Dozens of antique wooden skis hang from a wall adding to the high-altitude feel. A fireside lounge serves strong cocktails to the clubgoing crowd and the weekends bring in young Hollywood, celebrity investors include Nicky Hilton and Nick Lachey. Servers can be a bit pushy in recommending LAX, Company's next door sister nightclub, to diners.

The Food
The menu is on the pricey side. Dinner starts with an assortment of bread being brought to the table including a flaky and wonderfully delicious cornbread. Starters include applewood smoked bacon and cheddar sliders, fried calamari and an "Old School" crab cake with Dijon mustard. For entrées, Company does steak and seafood well. The NY Strip was tender and juicy, and they also serve a tasty mushroom ravioli.

I too just recently decided to give the Luxor a visit and dined at Company American Bistro. I had dined there right after they first opened in December and found the food, although creative, almost forced as if someone forcing a painter to paint something that they loathe. However, on this most recent visit, I found not only the room more inviting , but a menu that was a fine example of someone who simply loves food. I started with the philly cheese steak quesadilla, which was amazing. My boyfriend had the crab and mushroom dip and believe me if you love cheese like I love cheese, these are both excellent choices, seriously yummy. Then we had a the New York strip and the tuna ,which of course we shared, and both were cooked perfectly. And for dessert, the most decadent piece of chocolate cake I have ever put in my mouth. Not the whole piece at once of course, but believe me if I could have I would. The best part is the new menu isn't too pricey and the food is definately worth every penny. The server was excellent as well and I didn't know this from my last visit but if you have dinner at Company they will escort you into LAX.....so naturally we went. All and all I'd say that Company is a place that I would love to take friends, family or even business associates. It's casual yet sophisticated all wrapped into one really tasty experience, I can't wait to go again.

Pros: Food, Service, Ambience

Cons: I can't think of one:)

I went to Company to try the new spot and give Luxor a chance - thinking that they may have reinvented themselves. Well, I must say that the room was inviting and cool and unique - so I was impressed, but that's where that positive vibe ended. I give them my name (of my reservation) and they said they didn't have it and that they were fully booked. Meanwhile, the place is close to dead... In retrospect, I think they were fishing for a tip $$$ because after almost pleading to seat my group, several staff members, throughout the evening, swoop by the table to inform me of the nightclub and how I can get in "with their help." What? Hello...? - I came to eat and enjoy a meal wit my girl and our friends, not get hasseled - which is what we got from start to finish. I guess they use this restaurant as a breeding ground to fill their nightclub and the staff's pockets at the same time. No thanks! Looks like I will wait another 5-10 years to revisit Luxor because it appears as if they are going in the wrong direction.

Pros: Great looking restaurant - unique

Cons: Food. Staff trying to take advantage of you.
