Beware! Don't let your stuff out of your sight! Thieves!. I had been given a small amount of coins to add to my collection from family, relatively new to collecting at the time I was astonished by what I had been given. A very rare 1913-S "V" nickel. I was so surprised and thought, "I must be wrong", so I decided to take it to a few shops to see if any of them could provide a clearer picture of the coin. As it was I had a 30x magnification loop, which by the way was far more powerful than most all of the shops & dealers I met with, the only shop to provide something which could come close to this was American Coin Express. I was at the Sunset Location and the guy there was really polite, honest and even seemed to genuinely want to help; suggesting I go to the Meadows Lane location because they had a 30x Microscope. Although it was the same Power or Magnification, the added luxury of having a stationary view port with a much more sensitive adjustment dial was far more beneficial than holding my loop in hand while closing one eye and moving both the loop and my face closer or further from the coin to provide a clearer image.

Upon arriving at the Meadows Lane American Coin Express I was not greeted by the clerk but rather after lingering for several minutes was addressed quite briskly by an older man who seemed rather dismayed by our presence. After explaining the conversation I had with the previous man, I asked if he could give his "expert" opinion about the coin. In the hopes that he would validate my determination, which by the way the other American Coin Express associate had told me "unofficially" he thought I was right, but recommended I have the coin graded in order to be sure. Back to the Meadows guy, he took the coin with him to the back room and after a moment or so came back and said, "Naw, this is junk... but I'll buy it from you for $1.00". After a debate, I finally ended my day and once home I placed my collection in their respective holders and away in my safe; only to find, weeks later, I had been swindled!

This Jerk had switched the coin with another of the same year and near identical condition. If not for a small bag mark or scratch on the reverse relief, I might have continued to question it myself. As it was, I sat in bewilderment for months in disbelief. How could a fellow collector, a dealer, and a business representative, coin club affiliate, so called man of honor do such a thing! Well, there is no way for me to prove it, so I had to bite the bullet; mind you if there was some way for me to get a hold of the surveillance footage from that day I would take him, the company, the owner all to court! In addition, have the clerk arrested for theft, fraud and for violating several state and federal laws, as well as violating fair business practices and once he was in jail I would pay some low down dirty S.O.B. to kick his teeth in. Please do not make the same mistake as me, this is one of the shadiest, vile, conniving, despicable, untrustworthy, corrupt, no good, deceitful and just plain rude places I have ever been or have seen. The fact that they are allowed to conduct business at all just goes to show the corrupt nature of this city of sin. What is worse is that the other location, although they did not give a very good price for my items, they were helpful, polite, and kind. This guy, whose face I will never forget, better hope he never crosses my path on a dark street- or in a well-lit public place for that matter.

Stay Away from This Place!. I know something about coins having working as a numismatist several years back at the biggest coin company in the U.S. Recently I went into American Coin Express at their Sunset location to sell some circulated Morgan and Peace silver dollars. I had spoke on the phone with Dennis and it seemed like it might be a reputable business. When I came in, the first thing I could tell is Dennis didn't know much about coins. He had to look at two coin books to know which coins were common dates. Then he offered me a price which was 35% below the melt value of the silver in the coins, which is ridiculous and much lower than any other dealer quote in town. He obviously thought I didn't know any better. Needless to say, I decided to take my business else where and so should you. This place preys on gullible customers!

Different locations are night and day. The reason for such varying reviews most likely depends on individual stores. The one on Meadows, off Decatur, is one of the shadiest stores I've ever been in. They offered me $400 flat for $50.25 face value on pre-64 silver coins (11/9/10), where the Sahara location offered me $829 an hour later. When I started to walk away, the 2 went into the back (obviously not wanting to discuss prices in front of other customers), and came back with a $600 offer. I managed not to laugh. When the other store used a machine to count the money, I was missing $2 face ($34 cash). By that time, I didn't demand a hand count, I just took the money, but I suspect the machine was correct and that $2 face was missing. I tries to warn the guy who owned the (new) Sahara store that the Decatur store was going to give him a bad reputation. He just shrugged and said they get a very different clientel. I will probably go to Sahara Coins in the future.

Great for Selling. I had some gold coins I wanted to sell. My rainy day fund. I called up and they gave 98% of spot. Thank goodness!!!! The store is a little bit scary to go into but, the transaction was quick and fast and they paid me cash.

Thank you

Helped my sister when she needed car payment!. My sister couldn't make her car payment and she needed money fast. She got coins from my dads collection and two gold 1 ounce bars. I told her that I have bought some coins from a store that I dont want to mention but saw a commercial while watching the news a couple days before and told her it was closer and we can try there as well. So I called to both places and and American coin gave me close to spot and the other store gave me 150 under spot. So I decided we would go to American Coin Express. They were friendly to my sister and I! I have gone back to them twice to add to my collection of Peace dollars. They are even keeping there eyes out for an 1928 Peace dollar that is Graded by ANACS, PCGS, Or NGC! They took my name and number when they will call me when they get that. one in. I am looking forward to that day.

If you need money fast and have coins or gold I would go to them.
