Named for the plant used to make tequila, this vibrant Mexican restaurant features more than 80 fine agave tequilas and sampling is encouraged.

I visted this restaurant on a recent trip to Las Vegas while staying with some friends. As a self described "know it all" on great Mexican food, Agave is one of my all time favorites. First, the margaritas are amazing. You can tell by the level of various tequilas they offer and knowledge of the staff that this place knows how to make a perfect margarita. I strongly recommend the mango margarita, which was perfect in the Vegas heat. The food was described to me as contemporary Mexican and was well thought out. I loved the rock shrimp tacos and my entire party had nothing but good things to say about their dishes. There was also a great live Latin rock band that apparently plays every Saturday night. Great live music and they rocked. Overall, Agave will be my new place to go to in Las Vegas!!!

This is an upscale Mexican restaurant in terms of both menu and decor. We were served a colorful basket of warm tortilla chips along with 3 salsas. We shared a bowl of black bean and smoked cheddar soup. I was expecting a single soup, but the bowl was artistically filled with 2 individual soups finished with a spoonful of salsa fresca and a sprinkling of cilantro. My wife ordered the shrimp and crab stacked enchiladas with sweet corn and chili sauce and micro greens. I opted for the taco sampler ? birria de chivo (marinated goat, avocado puree, cilantro and onion), carnitas with nopales salsa and tomato purcee and fresh fish with Mexican slaw and salsa fresca. The kitchen made a mistake preparing carne asada (grilled skirt steak) instead of the carnitas, not a problem since all 3 tacos were delicious. When I brought the mistake to the waiter?s attention, he offered to bring me an additional taco, but I was satiated and waived him off. 12/07 Update - We first dined at this gorgeous Mexican restaurant on our September trip. Warm blue and white corn tortilla chips were served with a pair of salsas and a warm bean dip. Ms. Westie ordered the blue corn chicken enchiladas and a soda. I opted for the taco sampler again, this time receiving what I ordered, namely birria (goat), rock shrimp and carnitas (pulled pork). Everything was delicious though the flavor of the birria was much stronger than on the previous visit. In order to meet the $35 minimum purchase requirement on my gift certificate we were forced to order a coffee flan. Our bill exceeded the requirement by a mere 81 cents before tax and gratuity were added.
