my favorite SONIC. this SONIC has *many* things going for it:

* it's closest to the strip

* it's open 24 hours

* TXT discounts are sometimes available

* like all vegas SONICs, the happy hours have been expanded by an hour: 2:00PM-5:00PM

* the staff and management are super-responsive

* wacky packs (kids' meals) are $1.50 from 5:00PM-8:00PM on wednesday

* just down the street from the rio, immediately across the street from the palms

HIGHLY recommended.

Founded in 1953 as a hamburger-and-root-beer stand, this nostalgic eatery is known for its intercom ordering system and roller-skating carhops. While servers rarely roller skate anymore, the famous made-to-order, all-beef burgers and thick malts are still menu favorites. Other signature items include Toaster sandwiches (made with thick Texas toast), extra-long chili and cheese hot dogs and hand-battered onion rings and tater tots. Desserts include chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes and fresh fruit slushes.
