Editorial Review for Empire Ballroom – by Ryan Slattery
In Short
Located near the MGM Grand and Aladdin hotels, this freestanding, 1,300-person capacity club offers a sleek, elegant experience. Local clubbers, industry insiders and visiting singles take refuge on overstuffed couches in a main room decorated in rich red and chocolate brown, while dancers grind under a massive crystal chandelier to DJs or live bands. Eight private cabanas on the balcony are available for canoodling while a patio deck provides views of the Strip.

Sadly, this place no longer seems to be run in a professional manner at all. Two or three weeks ago on a friday night, there was the most noisy and erratic sounding kind of techno I've ever heard in my life playing in the main room, and these really cheesy electro visuals on the video screens. I practically ran into the next room. In the Hip Hop lounge the DJ was spinning Lil John... Heard that a million times. Boring. I left that in about ten seconds. Upstairs on the patio, all the doors were wide open, and the sound from inside was bleeding into the patio, totally ruining the atmosphere up there. How do they expect to pull locals at all, when they assault their ears? Last year the place was still busy, but now, they can barely fill the main room half ways. Why do they play such corny and annoying music in their most obvious rooms, and then if there's actually good tuunes on the patio they short change it by having half-ass sound? Its like either no one cares or no one even realizes that there is such a major problem there. There are many many talented entertainers in Las Vegas who could do a lot of good for this venue if they were just compensated properly. Hello, Soulkitchen??? House Society??? Our House??? Innercity Music??? WAKE UP EMPIRE!!! I'm totally into house/techno, and when I go into this place I think "If the best House/Techo in Las Vegas is supposed to be here, no wonder people are going to other place to listen to lame top 40."
Pros: Too few to count
Cons: Too many to list

Its all about the MUSIC- Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Erick Morillo and the rest of the best this world has to offer, why go anywhere else to hear the same Hip Hop or boring rock mash up that every DJ at every club in every casino plays? or the 80's at a 20 million dollar nightclub turning it into a kareoke bar??? anyway, Empire is my favoriten and i highly recommend it if you like dance music. If you want a glimpse at Paris Hilton hidden in a booth Pure or Tao.
Pros: Thumbs up, Music, Sound System
Cons: not happening until 3am
