The hostess gave us a very indifferent attitude. But that was the only "bad" service we got all meal. The waitress was extremely friendly and felt very apologetic for bringing out our entrees before the appetizer. In fact, she went above and beyond and gave us free dessert as a way of saying sorry. And the crab cakes were only a couple minutes late! It's rare to get such great service. The raw oysters were simply amazing. They were extremely delicious. And this is during Summer months, when raw oysters are supposed to be on their seasonal worst. The rest of the food was ok. Nothing stands out in my mind. We had a sampling of most of their popular dishes. I've had better gumbos and such at other oyster bars in the city. I did enjoy their desserts a lot though. And not just because they were free.

We stayed at the Orleans and ate several times at Big Al's. The oysters are great along with the seafood chowder. The service was good and the price was about right. We will be going back to the Orleans soon and for sure we will eat at Big Al's.

Pros: Great Food
