Not good service. We took our family of 7 on a Sunday afternoon and the wait time for our order took 15 minutes. The waiter could not even get the iced tea correct when it came for a second filling. This is not a place that I would suggest going to for my friends. In all it was not the experience I thought that it would be.
Disappointing. If you happen to venture into this restaurant...be prepared to wait for your food! My family and I decided to eat here one night looking for a fairly quick bite. The restaurtant was not busy at all but we ended up waiting about 30 minutes(if not longer) for our food. Once the food came we realized that it was poor quality. The burgers were tasteless and had an odd spongy texture (most likely due to over cooking and sitting for a long time) and the fries were hard, sparse, and very dry. The food is quite expensive and fries have to be ordered separately from the burgers. I can't decide if the service or the food was worse...but either way they both equaled one bad experience.
Completely Average, Bland Burgers....
I have been to an Islands in LA, where our entire group agreed the food was nothing special. Hoping that was a fluke, I decided to try the Islands in Las Vegas.
Unfortunately, it was more of the same. I ordered the blue cheese burger, a fruit punch, and an order of fries. The burger was very bland and you could barely taste any blue cheese at all. My fries were very hard and dry... They were more like potato chips.
It really wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't so expensive... The bill for my meal was $13.43 (before tip). No lunch meals, no specials. Burgers don't come with fries, you have to pay alot extra for a giant basket that's way more than two people would eat.
Pluses, the food came quickly, service was good, and they offer whole wheat buns.
If Gilligan opened a burger joint, this would be it..
The Scene
With thatched umbrellas, photos of crashing waves, stuffed toucans and a soundtrack of twangy '60s surf-rock, it doesn't take a genius to figure out this chain's theme. Yep, it's beach, burgers and plenty of kitsch. The joval atmosphere and service (not to mention a full-service bar) lures lunching business folk, beer-drinking college students and families with food-throwing toddlers.
The Food
Like the decor, the menu is a no-brainer--sandwiches, salads, fries and burgers. Served in a basket with fork and knife, thick beef patties come grilled to order with lettuce, tomato and any variety of extras. For a lighter bite, try one of the soft tacos. Filled with either fish or chicken, the wraps are inauthentic, but tasty. Yaki tacos are stuffed with teriyaki chicken, chives, pineapple and jack cheese. Whatever you order, don't forget the fries. These hand-cut, super-crispy sticks are addicting, especially when dipped in creamy ranch dressing.
