I was reading the reviews about some of the bars I frequent and wanted to add my 2 cents. I go to a variety of places around town and I personally enjoy the DJ at Mad River. Maybe the usual guy was off that night or something. You always know what you're going to get with this place. Dance and sing a long music that reminds you of college. Sometimes Bon Jovi and Journey can get annoying but its def a change from the all hip hop or crazy club techno music that you tend to find in every other place in Philly. My girlfriend and her friends can go dance and have fun and not get bothered by tools that think they're cool b/c they have bottle service. I'll take drunk people singing Journey and Bruce Springsteen over that anyday.

Pros: always a good time

Cons: loud

I went to Mad River Saturday for a friends' birthday party. We attempted to dance, but the dj kept changing songs every 15-30 seconds. People would get up to dance to a song, and by the time they made it to the group, the song had changed. It was incredibly obnoxious, because he didn't just switch songs, he switched beats. And just to keep you on your toes, every 10 minutes or so he would actually let a song finish. That may be alright as background music, but when you have 2 packed dance floors and people actually TRYING TO DANCE, you should get off your ego trip and make the music danceable. Most of our group eventually gave up attempting to dance to that schizophrenic cr@p. Nearly all anyone talked about was how bad the dj was. I felt bad for the birthday girl because Mad River had been her idea. Honestly, I think none of us would go back again based on what a bad experience that was. Other bars have drinks and fun people--the only thing that could have set Mad River apart was the dj, but he sucked.

Pros: Can't think of any

Cons: Worst DJ in the universe
