A hidden gem in Las Vegas
by omarwatts at Citysearch
Being my first trip to Las Vegas, I was a little apprehensive about staying off of the Strip. Boy was I wrong. The Silverton was great!
First off, the atmosphere of the place is astounding. The lodge feel is something you really can?t find on the Strip. The Casino itself is fairly large and has plenty of excellent gaming options. There is a gigantic Bass Pro Shop attached to the casino that would take literally all day to browse through.
Something else I found really entertaining was the Silverton?s aquarium. I very much enjoyed sipping on an ice-cold beer inside the Mermaid Lounge while watching all the fish and aquatic life swim about in the aquarium.
The room was immaculate. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in and gave me an excellent chance to really rest up for a big day out and about.
Speaking of out and about, even though the Silverton is off Strip, it is not far at all. It is just right down the highway from Mandalay bay, so exploring the normal sights is only seconds away!
Lastly, the dining options are endless. I really enjoyed the Mexican place, Mi Casa. The atmosphere was very lively and menu out of this world. Following dinner, I enjoyed a few margaritas at the bar.
I would recommend the Silverton to anyone visiting Las Vegas. It really is a hidden gem in my book!
- Pros: Great service, value, entertainment and location
- Cons: N/A
Season's buffet
by pwarrick at Citysearch
I haven't stayed at the hotel, since I live in Las Vegas, but I wanted to comment on the buffet, Seasons.
Buffets in Las Vegas tend to be either low-budget and low-cost, or high-end and high-cost. This one is on the upper end of the quality and price scale, but you get what you pay for.
Service is attentive and friendly, ambience kind of modern hunting lodge decor. Very pleasant, particularly for a buffet.
Food choices are Italian, Asian, American and seafood. Crab legs (on the $18.99 dinner menu) are very popular and the crowds can result in some wait time, but the food quality is good and they're well-prepared, if not particularly imaginative. I have a thing for their strawberry shortcake, but be sure to get there well before the end of the serving time frame or you may find yourself left out of some of the desserts.
By the way, if you happen to be flying on Southwest, check for a 2-for-1 coupon on the Silverton ad.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Can result in wait at the buffet line
