Editorial Review for Mijita – by Scott Hocker
The Scene
From the walls displaying bottles Mexican sodas to the staff wearing cuter-than-cute T-shirts depicting a Day of the Dead skeleton in toque and apron, there's a distinct aura of Mexi-kitsch. Wooden tables and squat benches provide seating that looks out over the bay. Service is do-it-yourself, but counter staff is kind and efficient.
The Food
Mexican antojitos made from sustainable ingredients result in high-quality bites. Tacos come in various permutations, from piping-hot deep-fried mahi mahi topped with slivered cabbage and avocado-cilantro crema to carne asada covered with grilled onions and too-sweet red-chili salsa. Sopa de albondigas (brothy meatball soup with tomato) makes a mini-meal in itself, while jicama and grapefruit salad refreshes with its garnish of sliced avocado, toasted pumpkin seeds and coarsely ground coriander. Weekends, there are hangover-friendly items like chilaquiles, tortilla chips doused in smoky red salsa, and scrambles of chorizo and eggs.

Really bad service for weekend lunch. Cashier did not read order back, causing me to have to stand in line a second time. Go anywhere else.
Cons: Bad service

Yeah, unfortunately I agree with the last reviewer. I'd been told I HAD to try Mijita and was excited about it. I went with my husband for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We shared the chilaquiles and the huevos con chorizo. Neither was very good or spicy or authentic. I also didn't like having to sit on those long benches, but I would have been ok with it if the food had been good. Also their guacamole was completely bland, and for the price they charge it should have been much better. I had to ask the cookds for some chiles, onion, and cilantro to fix it up a bit. On the plus side, they have a good selection of Mexican beers. If you're in the mood for Mexican food, walk a couple of blocks to Orale Taqueria... seriously good and authentic Mexican!
Pros: Location, Beer, Aguas Frescas
Cons: Overpriced, Ambience
