In Short – Founded in 1983, this high-tech haven is recognizable by its blue, box-like building stamped with a yellow price tag-shaped logo. Explore the wide, gadget-lined aisles and find brand-name goods including personal computers, video games, TVs, digital cameras, cell phones and fax machines. Choose from a slew of popular brands such as Canon, Microsoft, Samsung and Sony. In-house installation services are available for most car audio and video systems, home entertainment systems, satellite hook-up, and home appliances.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- If your computer crashes in the middle of a last-minute project, don't freak out, just call the Geek Squad, Best Buy's affiliate 24/7 computer-support task force. See website for details.
- Know Before You Go:
- Before you hop in your car, check the weekly online-only sales event Hot Deals Wednesday for savings on computers, cameras, electronics and appliances.
- Look Good:
- Don't get stuck with a lemon: Purchase the optional Performance Service Plan with your product to ensure long-lasting performance.
Stay away... Bad customer service

Tried to purchase a movie and it rang up a different price than what they had it listed for... The manager refused to honor the advertised price and basically accused me of trying to steal from the company...
Only As A Last Resort
by AnnieLaurie at Citysearch
I only use Best Buy as a last resort. Had to get a new laptop and, after checking out a number of other stores, they had the best one for my needs. The friendliest person in the store was the 'guard' at the door who removed the security device from the box. We spoke to 2 different sales people - neither of whom looked us in the eye or cracked a smile. They couldn't have cared less about me or my business! If I'd been able to find the computer I needed elsewhere, you can bet I'd have done it.
