Editorial Review for Sephora – by Nicole Christie
In Short
This glitzy beauty boutique is covered wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling in fragrances, cosmetics and skin-care essentials. Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior and Shiseido are alongside harder-to-find brands like BeneFit, Interface and Nars. Everything is available for sampling and salespeople are eager to help clients dabble with new products. You're not here to bargain hunt, though. Expect to pay top dollar.

I always enjoy the amount of product they have there at the perfume area. When I need a new bottle I go in and sample a hundred different scents and pick out a new one for myself. The staff there is always ready to answer my questions about the newest perfumes and I always make sure I have a seat near the front of the store and watch people go by from the huge windows they have. Plus if you're looking for make up or men's scents they have a ton of that too.

The latest cosmetics, perfumes, skin care, hair products, cosmeceuticals, beauty tools, and accessories all in one place -- and best of all, the sales staff is savvy about everything and every brand in the store! You need the mascara that gives you the most volume? They'll take you right to it. You want the foundation that gives the best matte finish? Here it is! The red lipstick that goes best with your complexion? Voila! I appreciate a shopping experience where there is no brand loyalty or bias on the part of the staff yet lots of solid know-how. -- Not sure if you want to buy it just yet? Just ask for a sample. They love to shower you with samples!! How can you make the most of this shopping experience, you ask? Browse through their web site or the latest issue of InStyle magazine, make a list of the cosmetics about which you're most curious, now go to your nearest Sephora and show a sales representative your list. Follow them around the store as they lead to you everything on your list and then evaluate what you want to buy and what you want to sample. Definitely don't leave without at least two to three samples to take home and, if you have time for a quick pick-me-up, ask them to apply a cosmetic that you've been curious to try out. They are all talented make up artists and love to showcase the products that are for sale. Best of all, if you buy their inexpensive travel perfume atomizer they will fill it up with any perfume of your choosing -- free!
Pros: Excellent return policy
Cons: They do not carry Laura Mercier and a few other brands, but they do carry over 90% of the most popular and emerging brands
