Sex Pistols Editorial Review
The Skinny
The Sex Pistols' loud, fast and snotty anthems--"Anarchy in the U.K.," "God Save the Queen"--cemented punk rock's outsider status back in 1977, and serve as the songwriting/performing template for aspiring punks even today. Older, fatter and way past 40, frontman Johnny Rotten can still deliver his trademark banshee howl and sarcastic sneer, with guitarist Steve Jones pumping out the power chords and original bassist Glen Matlock subbing for the dead-and-gone Sid Vicious. It's hard to imagine nostalgia creeping into a set accentuated by gobs of spit and rancorous bum notes. Still, don't expect much in the way of new material from a tour that, for better or worse, mocks the band's original "live fast, die young" swindle.
The Crowd
Punk rockers past and present, mohawked and balding, attired in the full spectrum, from vintage Buzzcocks T-shirts to Green Day baseball caps and tight black leather.
