Tips for Gardunos

You're better off at Pink Taco. Garduno's sells itself as a top Mexican on the Strip. It actually is very mediocre at best. What I noticed about its shortcuts - they serve canned black olives. Terrible and a sign of cheap and poor food prep.

The portions are also too large, the food is like a chain restaurant Chi-Chi's, and the staff really is nice but untrained.

Not really worth a second look. Z

Ate there out of convenience. Was with there with a group because we were at the Palms, food was decent Mexican food. Pretty standard, portions were bigger than I expected. Enjoyed their salsa bar, went there for lunch on a Friday, service was decent.

So-so Mexican. I'll admit, the reasons I decided to try Garduno's at the Palms was that I got a $20 dining certificate by signing up for their Players Club. First of all, the ambience is nice, and the table we got was overlooking the pool area, which was pleasant. Service was reasonably attentive and friendly, even though the restaurant was quite busy that night. Another nice touch is the salsa bar, including warm bean dip.

The menu is pretty standard, and we decided to try steak fajitas and the pork adobo. The fajitas had a slightly off-taste, not bad, but unfamiliar, and I've ordered fajitas in a dozen or more restaurants. The pork was unevenly heated, which made me think it had been microwaved. It was a little over-spiced as well (although I like heat, this was another indication that it was prepared in advance and stored). Side dishes were standard (beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, rice, etc.). Prices are good, and they do have a pretty varied menu.

The biggest mistake you can make is to order the huge margaritas. For one thing, they're $19.95 (which is not listed on the menu). For another, if there's any tequila (or any other alcohol), you sure can't tell it. Avoid them, and order something smaller and, hopefully, with at least a shot of tequila.

The meals include complementary chips, of course, and sopapillas (honey's already on the table).

Classic Mexican cuisine with a New Mexico-Sonoran twist keeps spicy-food lovers satisfied at this Palms favorite.. In Short
This place serves more than just the regular tacos, burritos, tamales and the like. Dishes like pork adovado, posole, caldillo and real green chili also share the menu. Guests relish digging into the chip bowl or a basket filled with sopapillas (Mexican fried bread served with honey). Garduno's is famous for real New Mexico-style chili with meat and spices only--no beans--at a heat level that can change from day to day.

Good Food that won't break you. We did not have to wait for a table, but the hostess warned us that there would be a wait soon. (We were waiting on our friend to arrive.) The service was not good as the waiter was not personable at all. Took forever for everything, including the beers to get to the table...even went to the bar and picked up a round cause we were tired of waiting. In all fairness, they had a party of 40 in the back, but it sounded like any other night, though. The food wasn't impressive, but it wasn't over-priced like other places. We got lots of food for the money. The atmosphere was nice and inviting...the bathroom was a trek, though! You have to go out and around into the casino. The Palms casino ROCKS for slot machines. The best in Vegas in my opinion!
