Tips for Claim Jumper

Gold mining and dining unite at this kitschy all-American eatery.. In Short
Established in 1977, the Claim Jumper draws families, seniors and professionals with a mix of Old-West decor and a reliable menu of American classics. Logs, corrugated tin, rock and warm fireplaces embellish the unique ambience. Signature plates include hickory-smoked pork ribs, rotisserie chicken and barbecued beef tri-tip; the menu also offers tortilla chicken soup, potpies, wood-fired pizzas, and the popular six-layer Chocolate Motherlode Cake. The saloon features appetizers and the restaurant's own brews.

Great Service, Great Food. Although the restaurant is always somewhat full, the service is quick, the waiters are kind and they make sure you have everything you need. The food is excellent and no matter what you order, a lot of it comes at a decent price. I have been eating here for a good five years and I was not once disappointed.

Top Plate. If you?re looking for a restaurant with good home cooked food, with a large enough variety for everyone, this is the spot. The servings are very large, so if you are from out of town maybe you could share a plate. This is a waiting game, so don?t think you?ll be in and out. A good hint? as soon as you get in the drive, send someone in and put your name on the list, while you park the car. This place isn't considered inexspensive. Plan on 30-40 dollars a person

Great Customer Service. On our first visit the service was SO SLOW despite very few customers that it took almost an hour from the time we ordered to the time we got our meals. The waitress was great but there was no reason we could see for waiting so we talked to the manager, who looked into the situation and came back to our table to tell us there would be no charge. We still tipped of course and because of the service from him and the waitress, we went back to give it another try. Well, the food is always good but it does tend to take a while. Since then the place has been busy when we've gone so we don't mind the wait, though. The service is always great! And the salmon is the best I've had anywhere! Great cocktail menu and dessert menu as well. If you're not in a hurry or if you order enough appetizers or drinks to hold you over, this place is worth the wait.

You won't go away hungry. I am always impressed with this resteraunt. The food is very high quality. The staff is very friendly. THe amount of food keeps you fed the next day. Worth the price.

Mixed Feelings. We have eaten here three times, long waiting times first two times, phone reservations really helped last time. On our last visit which was 4/25/2005, it was a total disaster, our appetizers were mixed up with someone else's, it took 25 minutes after we were done with the appetizer for our dinners to arrive, my husbands was burned and very oily (Chicken Fried Steak) and my dinner (Whiskey Chicken) was cold all the way through. They warmed the plate up real well, but the chicken was not heated through still, many apologies but still a sad experience. We are giving them one more chance, as the first two meals were excellent.

Quantity Does NOT Equal Quality. Claim Jumper's claim to fame is that they have huge portions. And they do. Too bad the food is average at best. Unfortunately, most Americans haven't figured out that quantity does not equal quality.

Claim Jumper does nothing special with their food. It is standard American fare. Color me bored. It is a shame, too, because I would rather not take home a doggie bag but have more inventive cuisine.

Yet, the hoards flock to Claim Jumper like it is serving Ambrosia on solid gold platters. Alas, the denizens who wait up to an hour plus for bland food don't understand that mediocre food served in huge quantities is still, well, mediocre food.

You deserve better.
