Editorial Review for Mastro's Steakhouse – by Jane Tunks

The Scene
Retro yet dignified, Mastro's does all it can to conjure up the ghost of Frank Sinatra amid a decidedly masculine ambience. Choose the quietly swank downstairs dining room with its vaguely Italian vibe, or the upstairs piano bar, where a chanteuse belts out the standards.

The Food
Knock back a highball while pondering the encyclopedic steakhouse menu. Portions are King Kong-sized and priced accordingly, with a la carte entrees often surpassing the $30 mark. Those who like gimmick-laden appetizers should try the shrimp cocktail set in a bed of vaporizing dry ice. But don't let it distract from the demon red meat. Bone-in rib eye--a fist-thick slab--arrives at the table sizzling in butter. Just as substantial, the baked pork porterhouse seals in all the flavor of its rosy-pink center. Other cuts include a bone-in filet; 40-ounce, double-cut porterhouse; and Kansas City strip.

This restaurant has the best steak in town. Excellent ambience and also the seafood tower is amazingly fresh and delicious.

This place is a fave hangout for prostitutes as well as the gold-necklaced men who love them, I kid you not. BHPD closes their eyes to this stuff but know it's going on. So if you're looking for that kind of thing, great but I wasn't ... as for the food, it's a hunk-of-meat place that doesn't cut the mustard. At best, pretty average steaks and filets. The bone-in filet which is like $50 and as such the waiters love to push down your throat is bland and a joke price-wise. If you want to cheat on your wife, go to this one, otherwise, by all means, stay away. By the way, don't know who's writing all these wonderful reviews but me smells something amiss.

Pros: Great place to pick up prostitutes

Cons: Bland steaks, exorbitant prices, chest hair and gold necklaces
