Famous pop artist Claes Oldenberg turns the torch of knowledge inward with this gigantic sculpture..
In Short
The most famous piece of public art in Vegas (excluding the Riviera's Crazy Girls statues, of course) is Claes Oldenburg's and Coosje van Bruggen's witty and austere "Flashlight" on the campus of UNLV. Oldenberg is playing with the ancient symbol of the torch of knowledge. What better gift to an institution of higher learning than a piece that suggests that hidden or inward knowledge (the torch turned downward) is important to the development of the mind?
