In Short – Less than 40 miles from the Strip, this is an extremely popular escape for residents and visitors. For one thing, the mountain reaches 12,000 feet at its highest, making for temperatures averaging 25 to 30 degrees below that of the valley it overlooks. In addition, there's camping, hiking and backpacking, with trails that range from easy one-milers up to those taking several weeks. In spring, trails are full of wildflowers.
