Editorial Review for MGM Lion Habitat – by Penina Finger

In Short
Families in or near the MGM Grand Hotel should take the kids to see this 6,000-square foot, glassed-in compound. Although lions everywhere have a reputation for too much lounging, the trainers assigned to care for this pride can often make up for it by encouraging play or by showing off with a demonstrative cuddle. There are sunny skylights, waterfalls, overhangs and greenery. Speakers emit a satisfying roar from time to time, although toddlers may find that a bit frightening.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

The most satisfying (and least guilty) way to see wild animals on the Strip is at the Secret Garden of Siegfried and Roy.

The Extras

For a small fee, you can take a picture with one of the lion cubs.

I really enjoyed watching the lions, although they were not super active on either stop there. But it is still very nice to be able to walk right under them and watch them from different angles. The gift shop adjacent is a great place to pick up a souvenier for the kids at home. Definitely a nice free attraction.

If you go at night, the lines are short, but then, most of the lions are sleeping. The habitat is bleak, the lions don't look particularly comfortable, and the cubs even play half-heartedly. They'd probably be happier in a zoo where they don't have people staring at them from the other side of a glass wall all day and all night. Gift shop has lots of reasonably priced lion items, that's worth the trip (love the T-shirt with a lion and the caption "Here human, human, human!"

Pros: Free, Different, Free Valet Parking

Cons: Lines, Atmosphere
