O by Cirque du Soleil at Bellagio Editorial Review
Overview
Theater director Robert Wilson once said that light itself is a character on the stage; the same could be said of water in "O." (The title is a pun on the French word for water, "eau.") There's an attempt at a narrative (an "audience member" is transformed into the "hero," who enters a magical aquatic world), but "O" is more like an extended character sketch, with water as its subject.
The Experience
A fabulous collection of acrobats, swimmers, contortionists, dancers and iceberg-bound clowns inhabit this world. The vast stage is first an empty lake, then a distant shore, and then a tiny pool. Platforms raise and descend, and performers swim or stalk their way across each water-scape. Technical innovation and human performance blend to create a breathtaking experience.
